Kibo was chosen for dinner on the second evening of our recent 2-night stay in Hope. We stopped into the restaurant in the early-afternoon, to take a peak, check out the menu, and at that time, made a reservation for 5 pm (it’s a very small place, closes rather early (8:30 pm), and the hostess assured us that the reservation would be a good thing to do to ensure a table when we wished to come for dinner). It’s a small (I believe we counted six tables ‘for four’, three tables ‘for two’), rather cute and cozy, family-owned and operated restaurant. The ambiance was quiet and pleasant, and the service, very warm, courteous, and friendly. Our kind of place.Their menu is quite extensive, plus, they had a few ‘day specials’ posted on chalkboards near the service counter. I ordered from the menu, and as I always do when we’re dining in Japanese restaurants, ordered a selection of dishes we (threesome) could share. The food chosen: hot green tea (provided, very flavourful) — miso soup (came w/order - plain, warm, and tasty) — spicy agadashi tofu (cubes of lightly-battered, pan-fried tofu, in spicy, tasty sauce - yum) — prawn and yam tempura appetizer (two prawns, four veggies - well-prepared, light, crispy batter, flavourful) — California roll combo (California rolls and maki rolls - ingredients very fresh and tasty) — assorted sashimi (portion size was a little small, but ingredients were well-prepared, fresh, and flavourful) — seafood yakisoba (pan-fried soba noodles, w/selections of seafood and veggies - well-presented and prepared, steaming hot, flavourful, and sure tasty). These dishes were some well-known favourites of ours, and they offered a rather nice selection of hot
In this small town town of Hope it was lovely to find a restaurant with quality Eady food. We ordered: Edamame, miso soup, sushi, tempura
Stopped in for an early dinner around half-five and was glad I did!The place filled up quickly soon after, no surprise since the food was really good.Had the seaweed salad (fresh and slightly different and better than others I've had), miso soup was rich and tasty, assorted tempura was nice and crispy and not greasy (didn't care for the tempura'd broccoli though.), popcorn roll was ok but probably would try another next time, the monkey brain though was really good (whole avocado stuffed with crab then tempura fried).Oh and the agedashi tofu too, which was very good. One young server on shift and she did a good job handling a full house.I'll be back. You should give er a try. They do take out too.
What a find through Trip Advisor! A little gem of a place. Delicious sushi and sashimi. Lovely owners. Met one lady who goes for lunch EVERYDAY!
