Waffle House - Hoover

Tammy is our favorite server at the restaurant. We enjoy going on Sunday mornings before church lets out to avoid the crowds. I love the hash browns cooked well, scattered, and double covered. The patty melt is also fantastic—absolutely delicious. The eggs are great, and the country ham is quite good as well.

The staff at this restaurant are consistently polite, friendly, attentive, and approachable. They remember you on your return visits and inquire about you and your family, creating a small-town, intimate atmosphere that reminds me of my childhood and is hard to find these days. The food is served promptly and at the right temperature, perfectly matching the descriptions on the menu – no disappointments here! I give this place a full 5 stars, recommend it to my friends, and consider it a regular spot at this wonderful hidden gem.

The food was excellent! The service was good for the most part, but it fell short towards the end. They didn’t return for drink refills, and we ran out of coffee. We were the only table there. (4) The biggest drawback was the noise level! It was incredibly loud. I wouldn’t be surprised if they frequently need to replace their plates. The music was playing while the seven staff members were chatting over everything. If you have a family member with sensitive hearing, this is not the place to go.

For me, ‘my’ Waffle House is the one on Lorna Road at Montgomery Highway. I’m perplexed by why the servers feel the need to write down every order, while the short-order cook never seems to need to jot anything down when he takes the shout-outs from the servers. I get lost after hearing "Pull 2 bacon!" but no matter how complex the order is, the cook always nails it. It’s like watching a symphony conductor; he perfectly coordinates all our orders and has everything ready at the same time. Throughout it all, he maintains a lively conversation with the servers, the trainee, the cop, and the regulars at the counter. The food is actually the second reason people come to Waffle House. My meal of cheese eggs, toast, sausage, and hash browns (scattered, smothered, and covered) may not be gourmet, but it was delicious and served with a smile—something you can’t always find elsewhere.

I spent a week in this city, and this is one of the best waffle houses I've visited. The chefs take great pride in their food, and I found the rest of the staff to be excellent servers. I didn't think much of the mid-morning team, but the overnight and night shift crews were outstanding.
