The combination of his very small, intimate attitude and the superior skill, creativity and showmanship of his bartenders/owners are what BLA disassembles. It will ruin you for other craft cocktail experiences. Two per tips: 1) It is uncongruently located a short staircase in the ground floor lobby of an office building in downtown which can explore some to locate; 2) Reservations are obligatory - no exceptions - with bar seats best secured 4 weeks in advance.
A fantastic cocktail experience is visited by anyone visiting this jewel in an office building in downtown Honolulu. It is a silence, so it requires reservations and it is a quiet place for guests really enjoy their liberation. Both my purse and my liver will testify that I have enough experience to drink in these kinds of places to recognize his excellence.
Bar Leather Apron ranked at the top of my lists for cocktails in Honolulu and lived up to his reputation. I was unable to make a reservation for drinks on a Tuesday night, but had hoped that my partner and I could get places as walk-ins. The bar itself was a challenge, but look for the brightly illuminated lobby of the office building, go through the doors, look for a stair flight leading to the bar, right in front of the elevator bench. Since we had visited, while Hawaii still had land-wide restrictions for indoor eating, we waited about 10 minutes to sit, but was greeted by the bartender, our vaccinations and ID had checked and his apologies for waiting when he took care of some orders before he could put us. Also we had made it just in time before the last call and could work in a night capsule before the bar closed for the evening (it was a Tuesday night, and under restrictions and in a business building). The inside of the bar is highlighted by a polished wooden rod, with comfortable bar seats. We sat on a plateau at the side of the bar. The feeling was a lot of a stylized Japanese whisky bar. The bar was able to make a non-alcoholic negroni for my partner, what he said was the most interesting tail he ever had. The server helped me to reach the Royal Kunia as a better night shirt. We had a good view of the bar, and interesting cocktails with smoke and fire were made. The mixology here is stellar and I would like to return for a cocktail here.
I never thought I would pay $20 for a cocktail, but the Mai Tai in Bar Leather Apron is worth it. First, the atmosphere is so cool there. Everything is dark wood and leather. It feels like a bar of Mad Men, or some kind of secret place. The bartender brought Tai every May into a separate cork bottle with smoke from Hawaiian mesquite wood. When he poured the drinks, he explained the ingredients and how they were made, and the scinching smell of smoke filled the air. The taste of this drink brought every cocktail I ever had to be ashamed of. Each sip with notes I had never experienced, flavors I could not call, and the smoke at the end was simply amazing. I also tried a Yuzu mad, because after this cocktail I had to know more. It was also very good and a beautiful contrast. Wonderful and also an artwork. We had no reservations for this place; we crossed our fingers and went on a Tuesday night at 9 a.m. I was told to make reservations before the time, and this place is definitely worth doing that to make sure you can board. Best bar experience of my life. Someone all the way to Virginia insisted that I go here and take care of the Mai Tai and I'm so glad they did.
My favorite Bar Experience. Mysterious and Fancy makes whiskey and Scotch fun for everyone. Bartenders are professional and well groomed. When you drink here you feel special.
