I love the food, the unique atmosphere, and the couple who own it. It’s a small mom and pop restaurant where the chef cooks specials that he likes to eat, in addition to his usual standards. I’d go more often if I lived closer. Yes, I’m a fan and enjoy taking friends and family there.
Soffrito is a little eclectic gem located in the heart of downtown Honolulu serving some of the best Italian food, and Cajun/southern inspired dishes in Honolulu. As soon as you walk in, the aromas from the front counter fill your nasal passages with delight. As you take in the offerings and the menu, the flavors from the kitchen hit you and you that you are in the right place. Dishes we have tried so far include the ettoufé and jambalaya with the real deal Andouille sausage (my two faves and made with roux from scratch! chicken soup with macaroni, beef stroganoff, various quick grab sandwiches (don’t miss the pork belly sandwich! for those in a hurry, and some amazing custom pizzas that are just as perfect for sharing, as they are for a party of one! Fresh baked breads rotate daily as do many other specially dishes each day. Portions are very filling, I love to eat and have never left hungry but always wanting more! Long time faves include puttanesca, and carbonara, as well as their radiatore verde w/fresh pesto – the steak melts in your mouth have remained on the menu for those who remember Café 81/2. One of the best daily specials I had recently was the gulf shrimp pasta in cream sauce! The specials change daily and I have never been disappointed in any dish. Can’t recommend Soffrito enough for a great lunch experience, and for a Friday night comfort run!
