Alakea Delicatessen - Honolulu

Our work group’s favorite spot for take-out breakfast. They’ve done a great job of keeping their prices lower than many other places. The breakfast is always delicious and satisfying, and the owners are consistently warm and welcoming.

This plate lunch spot has been around for quite some time and is conveniently located at the corner of Alakea and King Street. They offer a wide variety of plate combinations in both mini and small sizes, all at reasonable prices. The breakfast options, in particular, seem like a great value. I tried a combination that included fried fish, spam, gyoza, and teriyaki chicken. Overall, it was just okay—the chicken looked rather plain and seemed almost parboiled rather than grilled. However, both the gyoza and fish were freshly fried and quite tasty. I’m curious to try the steak next, as I’ve heard a lot of positive comments about it and it’s featured prominently in their name. Based on my current experience, I might explore other options before returning. On the plus side, the staff were incredibly efficient and helpful, which was definitely a highlight.

Delicious food at a small, little-known takeout place. We visited the King Kamehameha statue just a block or two away on a Saturday afternoon when many places were closed, so we ended up here, and it turned out to be a delightful surprise. Everything we tried was excellent, and the prices were quite reasonable. We ordered a bento box that included a variety of steak, shrimp, wings, and Spam, along with some pot stickers (I can’t recall the term they used for those). Everything was really good. The only downside is that there is no seating area; it's purely takeout. However, we found a nearby plaza where we could enjoy our meal under the trees.

These guys are simply the best! From the location, to the quality of their food, to their very reasonable prices. There hasn't been one thing on their menu that I haven't enjoyed!! You can never go wrong here if you are unsure of what you want to eat!

Conveniently located for walk in traffic, breakfast and lunch. They don't make your food until you order it, so it's not very fast if there's a lot of people waiting, but the menu is extensive and pretty customizable, for a small added charge. I've been going for years, and the taste hasn't changed, even though there've been small tweaks to the portion sizes partly due to having to change the take out containers. Due to COVID, there's no eating inside, although the stools and counters are still there.
