But sometimes I just get a craving for some typical Chinese dishes. The other review below, mentioning fish and seafood on the menu this is mock meat, ie. 鱼香茄子 (salted fish with aubergine it 's a sloppy, salty brown sauce with sludgy aubergine, which hits the spot for that particular craving. ANYWAY I came here for the bird nest dish; traditionally it 's a lot of veg, some sort of seafood, and cashews inside of a fried basket of noodle/potato/taro. Their quality has definitely gone downhill the nest is now stale (as if they are re frying it just for serving and the portion is a bit smaller. They add some fish ball and prawn for the seafood part. It looks like they 're relying a lot more on celery now. Back then (years ago? , they would 've had more green beans and lily bulb. I also had a pumpkin/tofu dish, which was fine. It 's probably better to stick to basic dishes. Updated from previous review on 2019 05 29
This place is great! Some really lovely food at decent prices. Great meat substitutes in a range of textures. We had a sweet and sour pork today and was really tasty. The place itself is very rough around the edges but that is part of its charm. I saw a review where someone mentioned that 'fish ' was on the menu. I can assure you that fish is NOT on the menu as this is a veggie restaurant (if not completely vegan). As a HK raised Chinese person I can say that veggie restaurants almost always have a Buddhist ethos which doesn 't encourage eating or killing or any animals or beings. So when it says 'fish ' or 'pork ' on the menu, it 's a meat free, plant based version. I visit the every time I 'm around as it 's great Chinese vegan food.
I would only grant 1 star, but the rating system won 't allow me to do that here. We enjoyed our meal but were disappointed to be overcharged (paid HK$150 but should have only paid HK$120). We decided not to fight it because the price was still not bad for 2 people compared to HK vegan prices overall, but after reading the reviews here that listed what others paid, it looks like they have probably raised their prices recently (besides starters, there was nothing below HK$60 for mains, and even then they decided to charge us at HK$75 per dish), and perhaps we looked like chumps. If this wasn 't bad enough, we did catch what looked to be fish on the menu (although it 's unclear...perhaps they just forgot to write veg. before dish names as with other meal items), and it looked like someone was eating shellfish when we were getting up to leave. Overall, I was disappointed...I just felt like an idiot when I left (both about the fish and for being unapologetically overcharged). Updated from previous review on 2017-09-14
Had an overnight layover in HK and our hotel was a short walk from this place. Ordered wantons that came with a sweet and sour sauce with tons of fresh chopped veggies in it), pan fried noodles in black pepper sauce and the owner/manager gave us a dish of random meats . One of the best meals of my life. I will try to recreate this at home since I won 't be back any time soon :
Delicious and incredible vegetarian alternatives to Chinese dishes. Massive portions too. We tried three dishes and loved them. The sweet and acidic pork is amazing, but the Mapo Tofu was a stand out! Updated by previous rating on 2023-05-27
