And they were able to accommodate us without a reservation probably due to the fact that it was still early in tourist season. Reservations are recommended. The Catalan Seafood Stew $40 has a lot of seafood and the soup was delicious. The seafood included finfish, scallops, shrimp, king crab leg, roasted red pepper, with a saffron, caper, basil almond spanish romesco sauce, and came with a bit of cavatelli and house bread. On the night we were there, they were out of the clams and oysters so we got a lot more of fish and other seafood. The frutti di mare $32 has changing sauce and the night we were there, it was a mandarin orange and citrusy sauce. It was too sweet for me. Or maybe my palate is just more used to tomato sauce. It wasn't as enjoyable to me. Frutti Di Mare came with shrimp, finfish, fettuccine and Parmesan and house bread. Not cheap but made with quality ingredients.
Delicious food in a cozy restaurant. The menu had a wide selection of options. Seafood was highlighted but certainly not the only option.
Gotta say, this was a friendly place!! The food was absolutely amazing!! This restaurant is a must if you are here visiting homer!! Celeste..the best server I've had!! She is from homer born and raised!! She made this night special here at the cups cafe!! Smiles everywhere!!
This place looks chintzy and strange from the outside, but do not let the deter you. The food here is high quality, and this is a great dining experience! I've eaten here twice, and enjoyed both meals immensely, and so have my dining companions. Cafe cups is committed to using local Alaskan ingredients where they can, but they also get ingredients from outside, and it's listed on their menu which is nice. The menu had good variety in flavors. There are dishes with Mediterranean influences, Asian influences, and creole influences. You would think these variances in their menu would cause too much confusion, but somehow the chef pulls it off. My most recent visit we started out meal off with a salmon poke fresh caught in Kachemak Bay. This poke was so fresh I honestly felt like the salmon was just caught 20 mins before the dish was prepared. The flavors were dynamic, and the wonton chips were a great vessel to eat the poke. Previously I enjoyed a mezze platter, and wonton app that were both tasty. Their menu does change, and they frequently offer several different specials. For entrees I've tried the absolute pasta, which had great flavor, and was not overly spicy but provided the right amount of kick. The portion was very generous with the shrimp and pasta. The last visit we ordered a kachemak Bay salmon special with Patagonia shrimp, Italian salsa verde and a cherry compote. We were blown away by this entree. The seafood was so fresh, and even though I thought the flavors would contradict each other I was pleasantly surprised. The desserts here are amazing. There's a house made blueberry cheesecake ice cream that's been on special both times I've dined that is amazing. I also recommend the peanut butter chocolate pie. Everything we've eaten at cafe cups has been top notch. Service is always great. Staff is friendly, and helpful. The food is creative, and well prepared. The diverse menu has something for everyone. This is definitely a must visit in Homer.
Wow, what an experience. This very well may have been the best food we had in Homer. We wanted to focus our attention primarily on seafood so we ordered the steamer clams, creole dish and their wonton dumpling special that night. The steamer clams were prepared with a mandarin cream sauce. Infused with the natural clam juices, the sauce was sublime and the clam meat was cooked to perfection. The creole dish reached further heights in that it was filled to the brim with seafood, from crab to scallops and everything in between. Definitely a must order. If your stomach capacity allows, I recommend ordering extra bread to sop up the precious broth. The dumplings were probably my least favorite, perhaps due to my taste buds being completely overwhelmed by that point. The sesame-peanut sauce that was advertised came out a bit too acidic than I would've preferred, especially considering the pickled carrot, radish and cucumber that already served as a palate cleanser. We ended the night with their white chocolate lime cheesecake even though my stomach was bulging by that point. Worth. It. Best of all, we were taken aback by how reasonable the bill was. You owe it to yourself to enjoy the seafood bounty that Homer has to offer, and Cafe Cups might just be the best way to do so.
