The meals have been varied and delicious, shows have been entertaining, fitness center immaculate, staff well trained accommodating, cabins updated clean and working ... I loved my Alaskan cruise on he Volendam, New Zealand Australian cruise on the Westerdam repositioning cruise from Amsterdam on the new Rotterdam. Meals were always exceptional, we've never had to wait for a table, menu or course. Our sea days were always filled with fabulous entertainment, high tea, fitness programs and informative speakers.
3-6-24 first update Halfway into our 8 day cruise. Evening entertainment: 7:30 pm show: The Step One Dance Company: MUSICOLOGY World Stage, 2 3 Sound and Dance Unite as the Orchestra Comes Alive So far this evening's show has been the most enjoyable for me. Why? It was not predictable and included a variety of recognizable song selections beginning with the theme from Somewhere In Time. By far the most spectacular evening's entertainment because of the numbers chosen, the brilliant graphics filling up 180 degrees of the theater with accompanying music and interactive dance choreographies. It was definitely more entertaining than the 1st evening's 150 year history of Holland America)and 2 nd nite's same company as tonite's) and 3rd evening's comedian funny, shocking one man show ie upside down pineapples) featured show.. Bravo! Loved the lights, colors, recognizable musical selections, very creatively done. I won't go into detail and spoil it if you plan to see it. Congratulations to the person who dreamed up this show. Our 7 day cruise began today out of Ft. Lauderdale. Our Vista Suite is by far the smallest suite we have ever sailed in. Very strange cuz we've cruised on this line before. I chose Easy out of Moderate and Strenous shore excursions for the three ports: Jamaica, Cayman Islands and Mexico. First the Jamaica Rain Forest chair lift got cancelled and today a lady from shore excursions phoned our cabin and took me off the 3 easy tours and put me on regular ones. Oh boy... not happy about that. Every cruise we always get a specialty coffee and dessert after the show. This cruise 3 coffee places closes at 9 pm and no dessert. Something is definitely not right. Another couple said they were sent to 4 places. To add insult to injury I purchased the beverage package. I asked the worker at the bar, may I get a can of still water and she said no, we're closed. Our suite attendants and dinner servers are friendly. However unlike other cruise lines where any one you pass smiles and is friendly, not happening here. Hope tomorrow is a better
We wish they had some exceptions to issue credit when a cancellation is made for an unexpected death. We had a Greek isles cruise for October 2024. No insurance which is my mistake. We only wanted some understanding of the circumstances and see it in their heart to issue something back so it's not a complete loss. We booked another Greek cruise for June 2025 to show our sincerity in traveling with Holland America. Please rethink your policy and please be more understanding. It's for customer relations and to assure longtime cruise customers. Unfortunately, it looks like we will try some other cruise lines.
We had an amazing time on our 9-day Southern Caribbean cruise aboard the Rotterdam. Granted, our two kids were among only 20 kids on board! It's definitely an older crowd but very friendly, fun and well-traveled. We really enjoyed the music at the Billboard dueling pianos, Rolling Stone rock room and B.B. King Blues Club!! The food was amazing as well, best main dining room we've experienced of several cruise lines. Rudi's Sel de Mer is not to be missed! The family also loved Tamarind and Nami Sushi. The ports of call were wonderful, and we highly recommend Solobon Sailing in Bonaire! One thing I will mention is that the verandah staterooms are extremely cramped with the sofa bed and pullman bed in use, more so than on other cruise lines. We had 4 people in the room and we were constantly bumping into things and into each other. I really didn't like that the pullman was over the main bed, hubs and I bumped our heads on it a few times. Still, they are very nice rooms that are well appointed with great amenities. I would just maybe get two rooms or a suite for a family on this ship.
First time cruise with my wife and my 1 year old son. We advised holland America several times prior to our departure that our son had some pretty major food allergies. We were told we would have a specific menu for him ready to go. First night: No one had a menu for him? His first meal, he was served one of his allergens, and was vomiting all night. We were given one free load of laundry. Third Night: we just got our son to sleep, and heard a very loud bang. Our stateroom window had shattered. We were told there were no other rooms available, and would have to stay there. Forcing us to have our 1 year old son sleep beneath a shattered window, on a ship, sailing on the ocean?! No! Thank goodness we had family on board, however it was a massive inconvenience for the other 4 family members who shuffled amongst their own rooms so we wouldn't have to sleep in the room with a shattered window. Absolutely ridiculous way to run a ship. A place where, when on board we have no where else to go. They don't reserve not ONE room in case of emergencies? What if a room flooded from the toilet or something else? Too bad? Only saving graces in this experience so far has been Mr. Presty who took over food preparation after the first incident. As well as Steven who helped get that sorted. This should have been the case from the very beginning
