I mean if you're in the city, what better place to watch the Isles then at Offside Tavern? Seriously, there isn't a superior spot, especially within the confines of the city that never sleeps. I mean, it's probably more of a Rangers town anyway which makes Offside that much more enjoyable. You really get to see some die hard fans come out to cheer on their blue and orange team, which is great to be a part of, and ever since I saw the commercial for this cozy spot during an Islanders game I knew I needed to check it out. Finally, several weekends ago, I made it happen, with next to perfect results. For starters, I gotta say the pictures on Yelp don't do OT justice. It's slightly more spacious than what it looks like with plenty of tables in the back and a nicely-sized viewing room (complete with projection screen to fill out the area. It all plays well for hockey action as most of their handful of TVs will be turned to the game (Isles, if you haven't figured that out by now with sound piping through the place. Oh and you better hope the Islanders score big that night because they'll also blast the goal song which just puts a cherry on top for the ambiance and feel. Beyond aesthetics, I can't say Offside is a beer-lover's paradise. Most of their choices are pedestrian, but they did have a few Coney Island taps as well as (you know where this is going, hopefully an Oyster Bay Brewing Company handle. Let's just say I downed a few Barn Rockers before the end of the Islanders 2-0 victory. My buddy and I also chowed down on some solid barbecue wings, creamy Mac and cheese bites, and Tater Trotz. What's that you ask? Well hopefully it's something Barry himself would enjoy as it's a layer of tater tots smothered in cheese, bacon, and pulled pork. Hungry yet? Okay, so what if you're not an Islanders fan. What makes this place so good? Well, beyond the welcoming atmosphere, the owner and employees are all friendly and were ready to take my orders right away. Our food was delivered right to the random set of bar stools we sat at which was pretty impressive as well. Might I add that Offside hosts some video game nights? That evening, before the Isles, half the TVs in the back were donning video game systems with that aforementioned projection screen showing some larger than life gaming action. Oh, and the handful of Alabama fans seemed more than comfortable amidst the Islanders blue and orange as they watched The Tide get beaten by Auburn. Hey, as long as you're enjoying your time at Offside, who cares who wins? (Actually I do. Let's go Islanders! . Overall, Offside Tavern is an Islanders fan's paradise. It's unfortunate I don't live closer (like my sister who is literally a 6 minute walk from the place, #jealousy because I'd be here for every game. It's just that much fun. The space is perfect, the food Is rockin', the staff is welcoming, and the beer is totally fine (just down those Barn Rockers! . Okay, maybe I wouldn't always be there. Every once and awhile ya gotta experience the Isles live, but if I had a second choice, it would be Offside Tavern, for every game. You can say Yes! to that more than just three times.
Fun place!!! My hubby wanted to come to this place and I wasn't so eager to go. I mean I like bars but I am not fan of mondays bar! Lol. We came in and it was packed!! On Monday! Yeap! Lol. The bartender was very fast and attentive! I was hungry so he gave me fresh popcorn! Love it ! The beer was cold! And the ambience was very relax! We played connect four! So fun ! And jenga!! I won ofc! LOL.. Bathrooms were clean! I will definitely come back!
Extremely loud. We could not stay. Wanted to watch the Seahawks game and found this place on Yelp. A small amount of wine is $8. The young people seemed to be having a good time; may be deaf by age 40.
Major Note: This is a bar for Islanders fans that's connected to them (and gets shoutouts by them on Twitter. They do place other sports but that team is the king here. In short, if you don't want to go deaf a bit; I wouldn't go here on a day the Islanders play. The sound of the game is deafeningly loud (way louder than their music player. For any other day, I wouldn't say it's super loud though I am usually here on Monday nights. The one time I was here on a weekend, it wasn't bad either. I've heard it gets a bit bad during certain football games but I don't know as I haven't been there when that is happening. I am usually here on Monday nights for their gaming events, those being Super Smash Bros for n64 in the back and Mario Kart/Super Smash Bros Ultimate for Switch. They occasionally have other events on those nights but the owner lets us know early if that is the case. There's otherwise fun events during the week including concerts and stand-up nights. In terms of the actual bar, I usually get a whiskey ginger or a whiskey sour. During happy hour, it's $5 and that is a great deal for Manhattan and especially for this neighborhood. It's not the best in the city but what do you want for a 5 dollar well drink outside for it taste good? It clearly has some alcohol in it and the waitress is nice. They have a ton of TVs for all the games you want to watch and the sports isn't super loud outside of well Islanders games of course. Outside of a couple unique hard alcohol selections, their selection for the rest (beer and wine is what you expect for a sports bar outside of the low low prices. In terms of food, I wouldn't recommend the nachos as there isn't enough flavor. I usually get the chicken fingers with their stinger sauce which is essentially a Thai sweet chili sauce. It works and there's enough chicken (and fries if wanted for the price. The rest of the food is fine. It's a sports bar and not a gastropub so it gets the job done. The wings are fine as well. I am a bit bias as I am here often for said tournaments but I like this bar a lot. The owner/bartender/other people are nice and they have good drink deals especially for this area. Just don't go on Islander nights unless you have earplugs.
Great place to get cheap beer and watch the NFL game on Sundays. Pitcher of beer (blue moon or similar) is less than $25!!! Several TVs to make sure you can watch all the games. Typically filled with sports fan of different NFL teams on Sundays. Recommendations: After trying all their appetizers, I highly recommend the southwest egg roll and cheesy breadsticks!
