We had a room on the top floor at the back over the bottle shop. Didn't have any problems with noise from either the street or drive through traffic. The dining room is quaint the food is good, I would stay there again. Thank you to staff management for making my first visit to Tassie very comfortable.
Stayed here with a group of 9 and it was very good for the cost. Cheap, clean and friendly. It is a few minutes walk up the hill, so don't stay here if you want to be in the thick of it. The rooms looking out onto Murray street can be noisy, as it is a main road and it is surprisingly busy for Hobart. This did disturb me even with ear plugs but i am an extremely light sleeper. Request a room on the other side. I wasn't disturbed too much by the 24 hr bottle shop underneath, it was mainly the road. I booked a double room and was given a double with single. It was large, clean and had a great hot shower. The rooms have decent radiators and mine had an electric blanket which is a must for Hobart in the winter. Brekkie was basic continental fare, however you would probably want to walk down the hill to the wharf. It is worth noting that we arrived on a Sunday and all of the best restaurants were closed. Bear this in mind for your travel as it is a big disappointment. We ate at Meurs on the wharf which was good enough, however nothing like Ethos or the other many brilliant food places in Hobart.
Good place to stay for a couple days (like backpackers), with some problems, if you didn't mind sharing a room with other people and preparing for own meals. Not good for people who need room service or want a diverse breakfast. Area near bus stops but you usually need to walk around or, most likely, hire a car to do any decent trips without buying tours around Tasmania.
Waratah hotel pub 'the tah' from the locals. is perfect near everything in hobart and has a good mood and helpful staff. the room was quite spacy and very clean, with a large shower and beautiful view on hobart roof 3. floor. a special bonus for cool tassie electric blankets! free breakfast is continental and includes chalk with milk and juice, toast, spreads, coffee and tee. the pub below has a fantastic atmosphere, quiet but chatty, with local friendly crowd who like to chat about tasmania and where to go. they also offer special nights for games like live shows, trivia Tuesdays, 30 Thursdays and discounted beer pizza nights. definately is worth spending a few nights! the pub is separated from the hotel and closes early so they don't notice when they're the early type of sleep.
I was just in the bottle shop so I can only comment. the only place in hobart is open 24 hours. large selection of craft beer. friendly staff. comparable prices to other locations. very popular in the early hours of the weekend, especially with taxi rides to home.
