We were sitted upstairs in a tiny room (18m2) with more than 15 people, the AC was not working. We were eating and sweating. not a fine dining place , people came with short pants, flip flops.
To be honest, as a Vietnamese person, I found the experience disappointing. The food was rather mediocre, lacking in flavor and served cold, especially the phở. The noodles weren't properly cooked, and the pate in the bánh mì was quite bland. Despite the high-quality ingredients, the overall taste fell short. This is just one of the many reasons why I left unsatisfied. Moreover, the service was lacking as well. Normally, when I visit a restaurant, the servers would at least seat me, but at An An Saigon, I had to find my own table. Basic amenities like tissues were also missing, and i had to call for tissue , which is surprising for a one-star Michelin restaurant like An An .
Michelin-quality food here at reasonable prices. Pleasantly surprised by the roast duck pizza made with rice paper and which came with kumquat and hoisin sauce. Loved my lychee lime cooler drink (off menu) which was a perfect balance of sour and sweet as well. The vanilla ice cream with fish sauce was interesting.
Got a seat at the counter but we didn’t mind (made a reservation for a table but arrived 15 mins earlier). Staff did make a couple wait close to 15-20mins for a seat at the bar despite making a reservation (and they weren’t happy about it). Butter garlic prawn was good. Pho spice mojito was also really good! Crab fried rice was a little wet, although it was up to your preference on the kind of texture that you like. Fish sauce ice cream was quite interesting, tho it was just vanilla ice cream with fish sauce. atmosphere was chaotic but acceptable
The food is not well served : on 5 ordered dishes, we sent back one because it was cold. Generally, all meals were salty and too oily. They did not provide enough bread with meals requiring. We took dishes à la carte. The order of food serving was weird and does not make any sense. Service can be improved for a 1* restaurant for sure. Beverages ordered was approximative (I had to asked 3 times for my drink). There was no one welcoming you us at the entrance and you have to enter and go deep in the restaurant to have someone welcoming you. The restaurant is really small and crowded this the atmosphere was not incredible neither. The waiting time between dishes was very long and frustrating. Not a good experience for us. Disappointing for a so called 1 star Michelin restaurant.
