The Lancaster Arms

A word of caution for families with young children: it's best to avoid this restaurant. The prices for a basic Sunday dinner are excessive. After reading reviews, we decided to book for our first Sunday lunch with the family. While the food and atmosphere were pleasant, the prices were outrageously high. The Sunday platter for five was essentially the same as the platter for two, just with a few extra slices of meat. Priced at over £100 and served on children's plates, it felt like a rip-off. The kids' chicken nuggets were £8.50, a small glass of blackcurrant squash was £2, and a child's ice cream cone was £6. We left feeling like we had been taken advantage of and won't be returning. The service was slow and the prices were exorbitant for a simple Sunday lunch. We ended up spending £200 without any starters or desserts. The table next to us also had complaints. That says it all.

We booked in at 5.30PM so it was not very busy with only one other couple eating and two guys drinking outside. The waitress Karen was friendly, efficient and helpful. I had looked at the menu on line which seemed OK so was pleased with the large number of specials to chose from when I arrived. the food was excellent as was the beer choice and quality. Prices where acceptable if a bit higher than average but it is a lovely venue not a pub chain. I plan on going to try the Sunday dinner next month. That should be praise enough.

Excellent all round . Very friendly staff and attentive. It was pie night so good value for money. Lovely steak ale pie best we have had in ages . Look forward to visiting again soon

Local resident and often come here. Menu is diverse and food is always fresh and well prepared. Nice ambience and great floor manager and waiting staff, always a nice experience.good value too

I visited yesterday and was very disappointed. When we went to the bar to order, we were told that burgers were not available at 6pm. So we ordered a pie instead. Unfortunately, the pastry was burnt and dry, and the vegetables were soft and tasteless. I will not be returning. It is such a shame because the bar and decor were beautiful.
