China 1 - HIGHLANDS

As a truck driver, I came across this restaurant on the TripAdvisor website, and I'm so glad I did! A big thank you to Andrew for the prompt delivery right to my truck and for the excellent communication. The food was absolutely delicious!

Now, before you regular customers decide to resist the price increases that China 1 has implemented since July 2022, take a moment to think about the owner's challenges with his menu pricing these days. Everything has gone up in cost this year, so it’s understandable that China 1 needs to make some adjustments too. I've had to rethink my own budget in ways I could never have imagined. To keep enjoying the fantastic wings, egg rolls, and house fried rice (which we absolutely love) from this local gem, I've scheduled specific times for my family to eat out there, ideally on payday. This way, we can stick to our budget while still relishing the great food from this neighborhood eatery that delights our taste buds! I encourage you to consider how to avoid depriving yourself of these delicious meals and to continue supporting our local small business that brings such wonderful flavors right to our doorstep. It's all too easy for a business to feel cornered while trying to stay afloat, so we are adjusting and continuing to enjoy what they offer! The food here is quite good, and it's the only option for Chinese (or Asian) cuisine in Highlands. If you go in without expecting it to taste like Panda Express or other fast-casual Asian places, you won't be let down. The Mapo Tofu has a nice kick and is very flavorful.

Was going to put 5 stars because delivery guy was so sweet and all smiles plus the food looked great in the container. Man I took one bite of my shrimp fried rice, no exaggerating it taste like it was dug out of the trash. So fckn strange tasting nolie! I tried forcing myself to eat more but the thought of where it possibly came from, cooked in, and the smell of it as I tooka bite had me so done! The drink which was in a bottle was the only good thing. I had to wash that taste down with the drink smh????????

Unfortunately, the main ingredients in each dish seemed below average; for instance, the chicken appeared to be pre-packaged rather than fresh. The Shrimp Lo Mein contained very few shrimp, and while the Crab Rangoon had a good flavor, it was just decent overall. On the positive side, the sauces for each dish were very flavorful and served in generous portions. Even the more basic vegetables and meats tasted great. Additionally, the portion sizes were slightly larger than during our previous visit, and the food was served hot. While I can’t give a five-star rating, I feel comfortable giving a sincere four stars considering the cost-to-value ratio. If you’re looking for a fast, decent Chinese meal and don’t want to travel far, China 1 is definitely a solid choice.
