The Sheiling - Highland

I recently enjoyed a wonderful Christmas lunch at this restaurant. The three courses, petit fours, and coffee were all excellent. The staff were fantastic and I can't wait for them to reopen in mid-February.

My first visit to The Sheiling was a success! I tried to book last year, but the dates didn't work out. I had heard good things about this place, and today's lunch definitely lived up to the hype. We opted for a 2-course lunch with a main and dessert, rather than the usual starter and main combo. The fish goujons were cooked to perfection and beautifully presented, while the chicken chasseur was also excellent. In fact, both dishes were flawless. For dessert, most of us went for the banana fritters with almond ice cream, which was absolutely amazing. My mother-in-law chose the cheese board, but couldn't finish it. The cost was very reasonable, only £28 for a fantastic lunch for 4 people. The service was attentive, professional, and courteous. Congratulations to UHI The Sheiling, you are truly deserving of praise.

During our week in Gairloch, we discovered that this restaurant is only open on Fridays and Saturdays, even in August. Unfortunately, we missed out on dining here on Friday as it was fully booked. However, we managed to have a delightful lunch on Saturday. Although one staff member seemed a bit confused and unsmiling, our waitress was friendly, chatty, and efficient. Overall, I would recommend this restaurant, but I suggest making a reservation in advance.

Just had the most amazing meal (again! strips of beef fillet salad in sesame dressing to start then salmon goujons with tartare sauce, chips peas for main wow!! The beef was melt in the mouth and the salmon goujons were so tasty, such a light crunchy coating and the tartare sauce was full of capers. It's a fantastic menu at extremely reasonable prices. Service sadly let it down today as there seemed an excess of trainees all standing about staring whilst we ate and our waiter was a little gruff.

Stuck between giving 3 and 4 stars. Staff are all learning so you need to take that into account. Food good but my avocado was brick hard. For £8 for 3 courses, cannot complain. Will return.
