The setting is a charming, second-story dining room with only 6 tables and a great view of the street. I was given a very clear, well-translated English menu and waited on by several English-speaking servers. I started with the highly-recommended Tres Chalupas Con Camarón Confitado, delicious shrimp with gremolata served on blue tortillas. My main course was the Pork Belly Confit Cemalita, a large, Poblano-style sandwich on a thick roll with pork belly, mango chutney, hoisin sauce and house-made pickles. This is served with three dishes of condiments that you can add at your whim: a pesto, some mild pickled chilies in a vinegar dressing, and whole chipotles (smoked Jalapeños). Definitely one of the best dishes I've had in my 3-plus weeks in Mexico Normally, I don't get desert but I was so impressed with the first two courses, I had to see what they would do with the final course. I had the Cucumber Ice Cream with Caramel Foam and Sugar Wafers: Amazing! Given the quality, I would expect the prices to be high, but they weren't. You should try this place! I may go back if I stay any longer in Puebla.
This is our favorite restaurant in Puebla. Definitely try the chalupas with shrimp, the cemitas with pork belly, ox tail and duck.
Moyuelo es una pequeña joya gastronómica en Puebla. La comida es excelente y creativa, sin olvidar los sabores tradicionales poblanos. ¡Una experiencia perfecta!
TL;DR Must visit for Chalupas, Cemitas, and Cocktails. Do not miss!!Moyuelo is a must try for anyone visiting Puebla. If you're new to Poblano cuisine and haven't yet tried Chalupas or Cemitas, first try some traditional style from one of the many excellent street food stands. Then, go have dinner at Moyuelo to get your socks blown off.The Chalupas and Cemitas at Moyuelo are sensational. We tried the duck, pork belly, ox tail, and portabella Cemitas as well as the Chalupas. Each one took traditional Poblano cuisine to the next level. We also had an herb whose name is escaping me now in tempura with a sweet potato and sweet and sour dipping sauce that was as much a highlight as anything else.Beyond the food, the cocktails are some of the best I've ever had. The Clamato Moyuelo with Mezcal and the Negroni with Mezcal were beautifully balanced with the smoky undertones of the mezcal. On top of all this, the music playing in the dining room provided the perfect ambiance. What more can you ask for? Nothing!
Moyuelo es una excelente propuesta gastronómica y una de las mejores en Puebla. El ambiente es íntimo y el menú es simplemente delicioso.
