My bowl of pasta was swimming in water. I could not eat my meal even though I was starving. Apart from the water the sauce wasn't nice. The waiter needs to attempt to look the part and wear an apron at the very least. The restaurant needs a revamp and clean. On the positive our red onion bread was nice and the bottle of wine we ordered was drinkable and great value.
How often do you get to dine in an authentic nineteenth century dining room with big open fire, huge ceiling fresco, worn wooden tables? Matt and his mother Maria are welcoming and obliging hosts. Meals are mostly pasta and quite acceptable. Good local wines available by glass and bottle. Not fine dining but it doesn't claim to be. It helps if you like Dean Martin!
Unfortunately, I am not able to review the food at Lucini's. My partner and I lived at the nearby Hepburn Springs Chalet and were drawn to the old-style restaurant just next door. We went in through the bar, where a bulky bartender and his two bulky mates were hanging out. The bartender asked if we were looking for a table for two, we confirmed, he looked at us again, then through the glass window in the door to the restaurant - and sadly had to let us know there were no available tables. I looked through the glass window - and could see that only half the restaurant was full and there were at least ten available seats. No need to say, we had no interest in staying...
What a shame! They could make so much more of this place. My husband and I visited one very cold night in June thinking we would get a wonderful warm experience. The room was freezing.Only heating was a fire and everyone in the room was still in heavy coats and jumpers! The food was below par with the sauces bland and watery. However the pannacotta was great. We could hardly wait to get to our car and get warm. Marie you might be hot, but you need to look at what your customers are wearing! Sorry, won't be back.
