Excellent selections of appetizers, salads, entrées, and desserts. I would surprise how many quality entrée offerings were available and love the mac cheese side item. The Wagyu and lobster special was tasty.
Inside GVR casino. The decor is nice but it's a very loud, not very intimate setting. Many people were wearing shorts, t-shirts and flip flops, so there was no real dress code. There were many people to serve each table, yet there not very attentive, and you wait a long time to order. We had to hail them down to order a drink and them hail them down to order appetizers. The food was good but nothing special. The special was a 32oz lobster tail for $220.00; but my husband ordered a 28oz tail from the menu and was never told they didn't have the 28oz so they brought and was charged for the 32oz. Filet mignon was average with great red wine reduction sauce. The food was good but no wow factor and overall not worth almost $400.00
For the first time in our 28 years of marriage, my wife and I returned to a restaurant as our experience in 2023 at Hanks had been outstanding (see prior review). This year however we had almost the exact opposite experience. We knew going on a Saturday night would be loud, but we were not prepared for the level it was. We were seated in the dining room in the booth closest to the bar and their live entertainment. We were sitting about 5 inches apart and we still had to lean over and speak directly into each others ears (yes we are seniors but our hearing loss is not huge). The steak tartare was excellent. We missed asking them to hold the red wine vinegar on the wedge salad, and only give us the bleu cheese dressing, so we did not enjoy the salad. My wife ordered the bison ribeye, I the veal chop, and we added the spicy creamed corn. All three items were perfectly cooked, however, they all had a massive amount of salt, so we could only had a few bites before we stopped eating. Carlo the general manager happened by, and ask if we were saving the food for a midnight snack? We told him about the salt level (we could see salt flakes all over the bison), and he offered us a filet (without any salt) to share and another side. We accepted and enjoyed the meat (we did add a small amount of salt), although the creamed spinach was also over salted and we only ate about half. Should we return, we will only do it when no live entertainment is happening, and ask for a booth in the back.
Food was over priced for quality. Been going there for years. But the food has gone down hill rather than up. Unlike the prices. What a shame. Have to cross it off our list of places to go.
