Sugar Boat - Helensburgh

Enjoyed a fantastic lunch with top quality food and beautiful interior. So close to Helensburgh Central station, it’s perfect for a visit and thoroughly recommended.

Busy restaurant and a disappointing start ending up at the worst table in the restaurant beside the hatch where all the dirty dishes are dumped. If booking I would suggest adding a note not to get this table for dinner. 2 steak meals were warm at best and despite being sent back only the plate came back with more heat. One other meal was good and enjoyable. Great server who was helpful and tried to negotiate an adjustment to the bill at the end of the meal which started off with an odd suggestion for a reduction to the overall cost but we got there in the end. No discussion with management, who didn't seem to want to deal with any difficult conversation, but the bill outcome and complimentary round of drinks helped with a disappointing visit. Staff serving tables were great and to be commended for taking on responsibility that would I would have suggested should have been handled by the duty manager.

In the presentation of an extensive gift voucher to pay our bill, our benefactor has lost a lot of money because our voucher has not been used in full scope and the renaming was not allowed to be used as a drinking money. the manager could not explain where the outstanding balance went. my advice, they don't buy a gift voucher for the sugar boat and I doubt if I returned to this establishment. Although the food and service was excellent, the customer service needs an enormous improvement. e. j. doherty
