Of course we had ordered and drunk only one bottle of red wine (129 EUR), but they charged 258 EUR for the red wine. Of course this was no mistake but a deliberate attempt of fraud. If the manager happens to read this we had tisch 6, RG#1/6/39581 08.03.2019 20:58 Uhr. Shame on you!
We were in the middle of the mother of all thunderstorms, taking refuge in a bakery, in the process of trying to close for the night. We asked for a recommendation for drinks and were directed down the street. During a break in the rain and wind, we made a break for the pub. While there we Googled fancy restaurants, we then called the Kurfuerstenstube, booked a table for four. Minutes later, we were being seated by Max and his impeccable staff. I had a beer, the women; wine. We had starters that were to die for, followed by filet of venison. Not even a hint of gaminess AND cooked to a medium-rare perfection. The dining room is elegant and festooned with elegant wainscoting. The service was straight from the Orient Express playbook and our glasses never wanted for a beverage refill. This place gets my highest rating ever. It is what one thinks about during the grand epoch of 1890s to 1930s European cuisine and grand service. I will return to Max and his team, every visit to Heidelberg.
We reserved a table months in advance and received a mail 2 days before to remind us of our reservation. The evening self they seat us outside because it is very warm weather (so far so good , but when we get the menu it is the one from their Fritz restaurant. (Where we ate the night before . Then they give us an explanation that the kitchen is too far from the terrace and the food from the gourmet restaurant is too delicate for the distance. (Yaeh right; . Then we see other people eating things that are not on the menu and apparantly you have to pre order this. After this they decided to just ignore us. After our main course I waited 30 minutes to order a desert, while they kept passing our table non stop but clearly avoiding us. Then i asked the check and they brought us two “free” coffees, now this really got me pissed. I am not complainig about the food (which was good , but about the total lack of communication and customer relation skills.
After bad reservation experience at Le gourmet i was very much welcomed At this Place. Great Food And Great Service !! Everything Perfect. I will be back!
This restaurant is located in the Europaische Hof hotel where we stayed. Consistent with the quality of the hotel, the restaurant was outstanding food, wine, service, ambiance and attention to detail. For North Americans don't be turned off by the fact that it is located in a hotel which is much more accepted in Europe. The restaurant is small, traditional and very pleasant. Our most pleasant dining experience in Heidelberg.
