The rooms are clean and nicely equipped for cooking if you wish, and each room features a small private balcony. The staff is friendly and welcoming. The location is convenient, with easy access to the ferry terminal, charter boats, grocery stores, and restaurants. The on-site deli is usually open but was closed for a week for rest and relaxation; I would have liked to check it out. Watching the purple martins nesting on the property was a delightful experience!
I absolutely love fishing out of Hatteras harbor. The inshore charters are always a great time!
I went out on the Gambler with Captain Steve Garrett, and it was an amazing experience! We caught a 60-inch Wahoo and a bunch of Mahi Mahi. It was quite hot that day, but the mate was very engaged and really helped us reel in a lot of fish. However, he did seem to have a bit of a quick temper, which was a challenge since some of us were new to fishing at this intensity. Overall, it was a fantastic trip with plenty of catches. Fish on!
The marina is wonderful, but getting in and out is like navigating a zig-zag obstacle course. I recommend trailing a local boat through the inlet during your first few trips to get the hang of it. The hotel room was quite basic and had a lingering smell of cigarette smoke, likely due to previous guests who ignored the "no smoking" signs. On a positive note, the hotel staff were friendly and very helpful—truly great people!
We were originally scheduled to fish inshore in the sound, but we noticed that we were heading out of Ocracoke Inlet into the ocean. We only found out about this change after asking Captain John, who explained that the fishing reports for the sound weren't looking good. While we adapted to the change, it would have been nice to know beforehand, as one member of our group tends to get seasick. Despite this, Captain John put us on several schools of bluefish, and we had a fantastic time. Before long, we reached our quota and set out to look for Spanish mackerel. Unfortunately, with the rain starting and our friend not feeling well, we decided it was best to call it a day, but we felt it was a successful trip overall. All in all, it was a great experience, and we’re considering doing it again next year.
