Magnificent building, nice eating and brilliant staff. it was absolutely packed and the staff was really busy, but they had still time for a friendly smile and a sweat here and there while they pull pints. the food was really delicious and the whole atmosphere was...warm and welcoming. could not recommend any more.
When we first visited this beautiful old pub in the heart of the old city, we were really taken up by stunning building and presentation. we had a nice experience and had a nice meal at our first visit. we were so impressed by the place where we even booked our high-time celebration at this place. we then decided to get to know the pub, the local and the staff a little better, to make sure that we have made the right decision to have our special day in this pub. So we went to drink on the 9th april and hoped to enjoy the evening. Unfortunately, a delightful evening was far from what we experienced. we went into the pub and went to bar to meet our drinks only immediately from a hostile, aggressive and intimidating young clientele. the atmosphere was really poisonous. one of the rackets who was particularly interested in going to my man with absolutely no reason at all, insulted us while we ordered our drinks. we let this go further because we are not the kind of people who want problems. so we went to the outside to drink our drinks to escape from the hostility at the bar, in which phase we were followed by a group of about 5 young men who began to get angry. I have asked for help to destroy the situation, but by laughing through the other people in the pub. I have cried and shaken. I was really terrified in this phase, as they appeared to both go outside of us to corner my fiancée more with insults and put there more face in his face. none of these aggressive behaviors was earned, as we had only come for a drink and were ordered cash! I then complained to the bar staff who didn't seem interested in what happened a bit. I was really shocked by the crowd here and felt completely insecure. we were not heard or there was an attempt to talk to the annoying crowd of employees to ask them to stop their intimidating behavior towards us. in the following week we received an e-mail from the “management” and said that they no longer wanted our business and the high-time party to take place there. what is so laughing as I would not set foot on this site when I felt that we were in danger and that the staff abused everything. aparently, if they are not a native, they are in the wrong, even if they did nothing. we were so annoyed by our treatment, and we are tied up why we were started this evening. we deserve to receive at least one kind of apology from the team, but unfortunately, because now know how they treat the dings now, I expect a sarcastic response to this review full of lies about camera shots about us instead of doing them properly. the pub trade dies. please do them better, this beautiful character pub deserves a team that its clientele feels safe and is a credit for the hastings tourism it so urgently needs. we are so glad that we have visited the venue again before we give up money for our high-time celebration, which would have been a considerable amount. I would have been devastated to learn true colors from his clients on our special day.
Friendly old pub. what a pub should be. decent beer, food available, friendly staff and not too many masters in their jealously guarded positions rigid on anyone they do not recognize come through the door.
Walked around Hastings old town which in itself is lovely, decided to have a coffee and after spotting the old pumphouse we could not resist popping in. So glad that we did. The coffee was excellent, staff friendly and inviting and the building takes centre...stage, cannot really comment on the food as the restaurant was fully booked a testament on its own but from what I saw it looked delicious. If your in the old town pop in and breathe in some Tudor nostalgia. Highly recommend.
