I had a Maranello cocktail and my daughter had an express martini we both enjoyed. we both had a beautiful lamb dinner that had the most delicious gravy, Brat...Kartoffeln and yorkshire pudding. for dessert I had bananenfritter and ice and my daughter had Malteser cheesecake. we had a bottle of red wine and it was quite reasonable price. the service was not rushed or pushy. I would recommend this place.
Harrow on the hill is smart. this place is so dated. all bar employees are East European men dressed in black. the bouncers are Eastern European males dressed black and the place feels dated. we went to dinner and drink. the service was...fine and the food was perfectly acceptable. our waitress was charming. the atmosphere in the bar area was a time long. my friend felt safe. many people from the harrow area seem to go there for drinks. the clientele, the personal and the towers supplement a disturbing atmosphere, the testosteron is obvious. when our group of 7 left, we felt that we had settled down by the reworking of this place. our experience was encapsulated by one of the big steal towers standing his floor menacingly when we ingwerly walked around him to go. on the plus side the bill was reasonable and we're sure we're out.
I hadn't eaten at cafe cafe for a few years, the food did NOT disappoint, it was fabulous. Curried tiger prawns and king scallops and pork belly starters-beautiful. Monkfish and lamb mains, again, soooo tasty. Service prompt, waiting staff average, there was hardly any diners,...strange for a Saturday night. So, here's the not so great bits, the whole place just seems tired, a little unloved and a bit manky. It's hard to know if the bar or the restaurant is more important to the owners. The noise from the bar really filtered into the restaurant, didn't create the best romantic dining atmosphere. The lights kept dimming then going brighter again, this happened about 4/5 times during our meal, again, no effort to enhance the atmosphere for diners. The toilets were filthy, toilet roll on the dispenser had finished, so the new roll was on the floor, this is just lazy, the restaurant wasn't packed so staff should be checking the toilets regularly in my view. I'm glad I'd not gone to the loo prior to eating-this is unacceptable, especially as this is prestigious, world renowned Harrow on the Hill, where's the personal pride? The outside smoking area is littered with fag ends, again, where's the sense of pride or reputation? This is the high street, at least as a courtesy to local residents and businesses ensure this area is regularly swept? The decor seemed tired, not the cafe cafe we regularly frequented a few years ago, such a shame.
The set menu is a good value as a glass wine. good eating, a change from all chains in the central harrow.
If they are looking for something nice to eat and drink, this is the place to be. here for lunch with friends and their food and drinks were nice and worth the price. I would recommend this place. it is quiet and cooled.
