I pass by it on the road quite often but was never able to stop for lunch. Today I had the opportunity to hit it up so I ordered the No.2 special. Roast pork, gravy over rice and fried chicken. You know the local fav. The 4 small squares of pork was at least half fat with dark grainy stuff stuck to the bottom. The rice was hard with barely enough gravy to cover the pork and then...there was the chicken. The drumstick and 2 wings were so frickjng small I swear I've had wild doves bigger than these. The meat off all three piece didn't even add up to a mouth full. Had I not left the premises I'd have gone back. Damn it! Really sucked for a hefty $16 a plate. Even at 8 bucks it wouldn't have been worth it. Sorry Omoide, not ever gonna go back. What a serious disappointment. Yeah, I was so hungry I forgot to take a pic and I actually threw most of the rice and pork fat away.
Stopped here on day 2 of a 11 day trip and had to come back 2 more times. Prices are reasonable and food was phenomenal! I got the chicken and it was probably the most tender chicken I’ve ever eaten. Be careful of the bones though as the breasts are cut with I’m assuming a butcher’s saw with the bones attached. We’ll worth it even with being cautious. Hope to visit again some day.
Please check your won ton saimin. No tasteRegular customer. Very watered down.
COVID era dine in experience Wong's Omoide is retro at its finest. There were random tourists coming by for pie, an old couple who wanted saimin, and me who wanted to make a plate from the various options served on the hot bar. I love being able to see everything to choose from this spot really meshes Chinese, Japanese, and Filipino comfort dishes. I ordered a two choice plate with tasty fried rice, a very Japanese version of Chinese oyster sauce chicken, and delicate sauce free egg foo young studded with fresh bean sprouts and other chopped veggies. A bottle of Diet Pepsi and slice of lilikoi chiffon pie from the fridge accompanied me back to town. This spot is special to West Kauai people. It's an institution. I was happy to see that little had changed, the food was just as good as always, and that the mix of the customers and workers was so diverse, colorful, and friendly. Come hungry and bring a shopping bag to fill with other baked treats. Love this place!
Won't be coming back!!!new staff and not to pleasant to me and my partner!!!wish they were a little more respectful!!!
