Already then a bit slow staff but ok when only having something to drink. Went back after a few hours to eat because We thought it would be good . But NO. The Food is nothing special, don’t taste much. The worst thing is though that some of the waiters are very rude and don’t seem to enjoy their work at all. I will come back for a glas of wine, but I will never eat here again. It’s a pity, it could have been so good.
The Old Ship is a lovely pub on the Thames that is a great place to have a drink. We have been here a number of times and reviewed before. The food is very good pub fare not gastro pub but one level below. The setting is nice, we have almost always had friendly service (as we did again today) and they are very dog friendly putting out bowls of water and providing a supply of dog treats. We are happy to be regular customers.
The Old Ship is easily one of my favourite pubs in London. It is usually my reward at the end of a wonderfully picturesque walk with friends, following the Thames as it snakes its way from Chiswick bridge. Most evenings it is just the right level of busy that you can have a meaningful catch with friends. In the Spring and Summer the Sunsets from here are stunning. On weekends or most days during the summer *when the weather is good) it can get rammed. It is particularly know for being a great spot for catching the ‘Oxbridge’ boat race. I have had Sunday Lunch here a few times, which has by and large been very good. It can be a tad expensive though the quality has generally made it worth it. Great friendly staff that always seem to skilfully deal with the varying levels of foot traffic that this beautiful location attracts.
I have visited this restaurant a few times in the summer for drinks and it always seemed busy, so I had high expectations. I decided to try their Sunday roast after a walk by the riverside yesterday, despite the drizzling weather. There were still several tables occupied when we arrived. We ordered two beef roasts for £17.50 each, expecting a good meal. However, what we received was disappointing. The beef rib on the bone was massive and the roast potatoes were very soggy. The parsnips were greasy and there was no gravy, just what seemed to be the beef cooking juices. We also ordered a side of cauliflower broccoli cheese, but instead got chopped up cauliflower and broccoli with cheese on top. Overall, the experience was extremely shocking and I am still in disbelief at how awful it was, especially considering the high cost. I will not be returning, even for drinks.
I visited the restaurant on a sunny evening with friends who had made reservations. There were two completely empty dining areas, and we had to beg to be served due to the long 30-minute queues for service. The pub seems to only stay in business because of its great location. It shouldn't be difficult to schedule enough staff, especially since it's always busy on hot days. It's a waste of commercial potential. I suggest going to the Black Lion instead.
