However, we recently had a bad experience which has put us off going back.My boyfriend ordered an eggs benedict with the eggs hard-poached (he specifically stated that he doesn't like the egg yolks runny). He has ordered the same meal a number of times--at Steve's as well as other restaurants--and we have never had an issue. On this occasion, the eggs were served with runny yolks. The fact that the eggs were not how we ordered them was not a big deal; this happens, and is easily fixed. We politely asked that meal be re-made with hard-poached eggs. The server obliged, but returned a minute later and told us that the chef had said that the eggs were as hard-poached as he could make them. Having eaten many a hard-poached egg at Steve's, as well as other establishments, we were confused by this statement, and asked that the chef make the meal again for us. When the meal came out,it seemed like the chef had removed the eggs, reheated them (by microwave or other means) so the egg yolk was now fully cooked, and put the eggs back on the same soggy english muffin. This was the worst customer service we have experienced in any restaurant. In contrast, when our order was made wrong at Taylor's Tea Rooms in Dundas, the staff were apologetic, the food was remade for us with no hesitation, and we were not charged for the meal that had to be remade. For excellent service and quality food, we recommend Taylor's Tea Room, or West End Diner in West Hamilton. We have experienced quality customer service at both and frequent them often.
In the mid to late '90s I used to eat here once a week on average. Today my wife and I had things to in the area. She was hungry. I suggested we try Steve's. On this Sunday they appeared to be understaffed both in the kitchen and on the floor. Our server was quick to take our order but the things began to slow right down. She was clearly over worked. There was no offer of a refill on our $1.95 cups of coffee. I asked for ketchup. If I had not gotten a bottle from the people at the next table I would still be waiting. Our toast showed up unbuttered. We had to ask a bus boy to bring us butter. My wife had the steak and eggs and they were fine but nothing special. My mushroom omelette was also acceptable but not great. I am wondering what the big thing was in the paper recently about the home fries. They were nothing special. They were the same home fries I could have received from almost any other restaurant in town. A real disappointment. It had been a long time between visits. It may be just as long before I visit again.
Cute breakfast spot with quirky/friendly staff. Eggs were cooked perfectly, bacon was crisp and the homefries were delicious! Definitely a great spot to grab breaky!
Went for lunch ordered hot hamburger with potatos got fries instead when I told her I asked for potatos she said we don't have potatos here.So I guess when I ordered potatos they had them but when I got fries instead then they didn't have them. Also my friend had fries and gravy as she was eating them she noticed a tiny piece of silver wire upon looking at it we determined it was from a pot scubber.Needless to say we will not return.
We saw a write up in the local paper and decided to try breakfast at Steve's. Somewhat retro, but very well maintained. Staff were extremely helpful and very attentive. Breakfast selections were excellent and food was presented very well, right temperature, extremely delicious and very reasonably priced.
