Owl of Minerva is our guilty pleasure. It is in the area and offers a great , quick and inexpensive Korean meal with good flavour that we always enjoy.I almost always get the bibimbap as I love that it's cooked in the hot stone bowl, this time we also got the spicy squid which was delicious. Also - Kim chi is great and love the little Korean pickles you are provided with every meal. Korean comfort food, always hits the spot.
I used to sit at home on a cold, rainy night and crave the pork bone soup from Owl in T.O. Oh how amazing to have the Korean warmth here at home! I know there are other places in Hamilton that serve gamjatang but it's just not the same for my personal taste. The bubbling, spicy broth warms me to the core! The house made kimchi is also delicious along with the additional sides. Also a favourite is the seafood pancake which serves as our appetizer of choice along with a cold beer. Haven't tried any other menu options as this is the only thing I want to eat while there as it is one of my absolute faves. The service is also prompt and courteous. Look past the dated decor of the former restaurant resident and let the soup fill your hunger and warm your soul.
We have frequented this place before, good food and good service. But today...The young girl who was serving us was very rude. She was cleaning the next table when I called her attention, she turned to me like I was disrupting a very important thing that she is doing. I asked for extra kimchi, she came back and said that "we're all out, if there's more we will give you". Ok, so when will they have more? Afterwards, she went to serve the next table with kimchi. I asked to see the manager and she told me she is the manager's daughter so I can speak to her. When I told her that I find her service rude and it was not appreciated she just shrugged it off as if saying "so what do you want me to do about it?". We left, deflated...After eating an average meal and being treated like this, there's NO WAY I am going back to that place and I would not recommend any of you going there! For Korean food cravings, go to another restaurant.
We were looking for Asian food while we were at McMaster university for an interview. My son had Dolsot BiBimBat and I had seafood tofu soup. Both are good, though my son said he had much better one in Toronto. We were just glad to have Korean Food while in Hamilton.
