Kumo - Hamden

I was disappointed with my recent order at this restaurant as the prices have gone up and the sushi rolls have become smaller. The seaweed salad was too slender for my liking, but the rolls were okay. This used to be my go-to place for sushi, but I may have to reconsider now.

We love going to Kumo! The sushi is affordable and always delicious. They offer generous portions of fresh fish and toppings for a great price. The shrimp tempura entree is always hot and fresh, perfect for sharing between two people along with a small roll or two. The miso soup and side salads are always on point. However, the portions of seaweed salad are a bit small and we usually skip it because they only give a cherry on top. I wasn't a fan of the katsu as it was just a piece of plain chicken over a large bed of rice that wasn't very good. I haven't tried the katsu again after my experience at Kumo's, so maybe it's just not my thing. Stick to the sushi and tempura dishes, they are amazing and definitely worth the visit.

This restaurant was absolutely awful. I paid $20 for very little food. The Kani salad was mediocre at best, barely filling the to-go container and being warm and dry. The sushi rolls were small and not very tasty. The yellowtail jalapeño caviar roll was overwhelming with jalapeños. I will stick with my regular sushi place. I only tried this place because a friend recommended it, but I will never return. Even though they offer half-price sushi, the rolls are so tiny that they are not worth the cost.

Gets 5 stars because it achieves same quality as other hibachi places in the area but for a slightly cheaper price. Phenomenal food all around, if your looking for some quality Japanese food look no where else especially if your on a budget!

Pricing is outrageous for the quality of this food.I ordered the steak hibachi which was bland and super chewy. The vegetables were boiled and tasted freezer burnt. Dynamite roll was tiny and the ginger had a weird bubbly film. The clear soup tasted like tap water with soy sauce. Salad was iceberg lettuce and a slice of tomato with what tasted like Cesar dressing.For $37 I would’ve expected better quality. This isn’t the first bad experience I’ve had with kumo but it will be the last. How in earth is sushi palace better quality and half the price.The only reason I am giving two stars is because when I picked up my order the take out staff was very nice as were the servers.
