I love this place, though I love it even more when you can sit outside in summer The service is super friendly and welcoming. The food is as always: super delicious we really love coming here! It’s worth the short drive from Hamburg every time
By the lake,no neighbours ,quiet and beautiful views across the lake ,in season you can hire a rowing boat! The service in the restaurant is impeccable, friendly and attentive and knowledgeable. The food is well prepared and presented and of a high standard. Man könnte sich kein angenehmeres Ambiente wünschen und ist in jeder Hinsicht gut aufgehoben .Ein Spaziergang im nahen Wald kann das Erlebnis abrunden.
When you approach this hotel and restaurant for the first time, your expectations are not very high. It looks like an average seafood place, but you are in for a surprise. Claudia and Gerhard Retter, who own, manage, live and host this place, are former Sommeliers who have both worked in Michelin starred restaurants and they are setting similar standards for the Fischerklause Lütjensee. A Bib Gourmand was already awarded in the first year the pair took over from Claudia's parents. No wonder. The Restaurant presently has the best value for money I have experienced in any place in or around Hamburg, and I have been to a few. The Chef is Austrian and the food of the same high standard as you would expect from somebody who hails from Vienna with an international twist to it. The Menu changes every month and the Food is kept seasonal and local. The Smoked Eel Comes from the Lake Luetjen which is just behind the Restaurant and the Smoking chamber is in house. The Trout and the Bacon is also smoked in the house or on a farm nearby, just like the Cheese or the Herbs, that is delivered by local farmers. The Venison runs wild in the forest around the hotel and is delivered to the kitchen, during hunting season. Pike, eels, trout and carp, fresh fish caught in the North Sea, hunted game from in the house forestry, well grown and cured beef products are the basis for the kitchen. The Fischerklause is located on the shores of Lake Luetjen just a few miles outside Hamburg. One of the most exciting wine lists in northern Germany sets them apart. The price calculations are very favorable for wine lovers as both Claudia and Gerhard are well connected with the wine makers and get special prices, that they then share with their clients. I have consumed well groomed and ripe wines here that one could not get at a shop for the same price as on the wine-list and this includes perfect service, and a detailed description of the wine and winemaker and even the name of the winemaker's daughter, from the Host, if so desired. Tons of exciting discoveries well beyond the mainstream were added in the last few years. The Wine-List by itself is worth the visit!
Fischerklause is a restaurant with about 15 rooms. We have stayed here four times, en route between Sweden and France. It is a perfect stopover, about 15 min off the autostrade and about 90min from Puttgarden. The hotel welcomes both children and dogs, although there are better choices if you're just looking for a pizza for the kids. We were welcomed back as old friends by the owner, a Gordon Ramsey alumni with a passionate interest in wine, reflected in the restaurants wine list. The rooms are fresh, clean, and bright, and at €85 very good value. But the real reason to stay here is the restaurant. Unlike another review, and having eaten here on several occasions, it assuredly offers good value. The breakfast at €7 was great fresh croissants, cold cuts. The menu is quite small, with several house specialties smoked eel with scrambled egg as a starter, or geleed with potatoes as a main, boiled beef in a broth with vegetables, or deer. This time I ate a tiny, hand peeled shrimp in a fresh salad with a light mayonnaise; for main, seasonal white asparagus with a fish fillet, potato and hollandaise, a large portion for €31. The pudding list is short, and we were only up for sorbets, house made and delicious. The wine list is outstanding, with some great value if you scour the extensive list. Although mostly German, there are some great deals among the claret some 2005's at little more than there current market value. We drank a sekt as an aperitif €7.5) a bottle of German sauvignon good value at €28.5) and a muscat with pudding. The helpful owner knows his wine. All in all €267 for room and dinner for two excellent value for the food and services provided.
