The Vale Of York - Hambleton

We've been wanting to try The Vale of York since it was taken over so we decided to go for dinner on a Wednesday evening. We were greeted by a friendly lady who got us our drinks, we asked to put them on the bill as we were eating but were told we had to pay straight away as they don't do bills. We chose our meals and also had to pay straightaway. Our meals arrived quickly and all looked very nice. My husband had the vale burger which he said the bread bun was stale or it had been defrosted in the microwave so was hard, the inside burger and salad were very good. My daughter had lasagna which she said was nice. I had hunters chicken. I was a little confused and disappointed as it was just a chicken breast covered in melted cheese woth a bitbof bacon. No BBQ sauce under or over the cheese which is what hunters chicken is supposed to be. The chicken was dry and hard around the outside too. We had desserts ....choc brownie x 2 one with a scoop of ice-cream and one with cream , no effort had gone into presentstion at all, and 1 brandie snap basket filled with one scoop of ice-cream. A few blueberries and strawberries. They definitely were not worth the £6 each price and wish we hadn't bothered. Considering the most expensive thing on the menu is chateaubriand at £65 the puddings would be an embarrassment if served after having that. Our total bill including drinks was £66.50. I know things have gone up, but you expect the food to be excellent in a pub that also serves an expensive menu. The food was almost average. We definitely won't be going again which is a shame as it's our local and we like to eat out regularly.

What a wonderful place to eat. The service is excellent, the staff very friendly and the prices offer great value. The inside is brilliant.

We were trying to find somewhere dog friendly and open for lunch on a Monday. We stumbled on The Vale of York on our way to Ripon. The lady behind the bar was absolutely lovely and couldn’t do enough. They even made me a sandwich that wasn’t on the menu to satisfy my vegetarian needs. My partner had steak pie with veg and mash and thoroughly enjoyed that too.

Stayed for two nights. Staff were lovely, though they didn’t know we were booked in through booking.com, seemed a little disorganised. Had food on first night which was lovely. However, the room was a let down. Shower room was tired not very clean at all there was a yellow stain on the single bed bed sheet, thankfully we didn’t have to use it. Bedding did not fit bed double sheet duvet on king size bed .

Good staff, good food, plenty of it, nice surroundings, just on the outskirts of Thirsk. Well worth a visit, definitely go again.
