I used this chip shop for the first time recently and was only going to buy chips as I am vegetarian. I noticed a poster on the wall advertising battered halloumi. It depicted a mouth-watering picture of golden battered pieces and although it cost £4 I thought I would give it a try. Whatever they did to the halloumi it was nothing like that on the poster! When I got home and opened the box I found 6 fingers (like chips) of halloumi burned to a crisp and a very small salad. Had I seen this before I left the shop I would not have bought it. I accept the fact that not many people might ask for halloumi but I cannot believe that this was thought to be acceptable by the staff. I do not like to criticise without saying something positive and I will say that the shop was very clean and the staff friendly and helpful. That said, that was my first and last visit. My £4 was definitely not well spent.
First time I been since it has had new owners. The meal was nicely cooked and enjoyable. What suprised me was the £6 cost it has gone up too. I am sure when I went last December it was around £5.
This restaurant serves excellent freshly cooked crispy fish. The service is fast and the staff are friendly and organized. They also serve delicious mushy peas that are not hard like elsewhere.
Tried the liver dinner. Plenty of it but was tasteless fish and chips looked ok. Back to castle rise for me.
