Tarek's Cafe - Halifax

The portions are huge! Went there for lunch and they offered some soup, not sure if it was sample for that day or they do it all the time. If you want seating, you want to go early for lunch as the place is pretty popular and seating is taken up quickly.

A group of us go out for lunch on pay weeks and Tarek's is one of our favourites in the North End Halifax. Enter the cafe and approach the counter, they'll offer you a free sample of their daily soup/chowder. They only accept cash and do have an ATM machine on site. You can order just about anything on the menu and it is excellent. The group of us come in for lunch so we order the pita option which is very filling and around the $10 mark. Our choice is always the half and half pita (half chicken/half beef) with vegetables and the incredible garlic sauce. I also love the beef shawarma which has great greenery in the pita pocket. Love every bite. Make sure you like garlic as these have quite a bit.

Just like the other reviews say, the cafe is not particularly large and is fairly plain -- however the food is great. Portions are large, hot and tasty. Even for someone like me who does not eat meat there were plenty of choices. Try and eat here any time I am in Halifax and always leave stuffed.

WOW! What a delicious flavorful meal we had, and plenty of it. Cooked to perfection, everything we had tasted wonderful. We ordered the peppercorn chicken and a chicken kebab with a selection of sides. The guys doing the cooking knew the dishes and could answer our questions with knowledge. You could tell they loved their jobs. The tables could have been wiped down better. Ours was sticky. We'll be back.

This is a small, unpretentious, casual restaurant. Everyone gets a free sample of the soup of the day when they come in, from the friendly staff. Eat in or take out. I had an exceptionally good falafel, tangy and garlicky, just the way I like it. The side of tabouli salad was fresh and crisp. Just beautiful! Bring cash! They don't take plastic.
