I went a while back with a group of friends. We had a groupon gifted to us which is the only reason we went. The male waiter was a little odd, and made some off colour jokes. The owner was drunk and in the restaurant, and stopped the music to announce himself and thank the musician (not in itself bad, but the fact he was visibly drunk). The owner then paid a homeless person outside to leave his establishment. The food was not great for the price ( we didn't mind because it was mostly paid for). The drink menu is not impressive. It seems like it's trying to be better quality than it is. If I was going to spend that type of money, I'd rather go to The Old Triangle, The Bicycle Thief, Henry House, Two Doors Down, literally most other places. It seems mostly like a tourist trap, because it's right on the water, and from appearances seems like a good place to eat. But do yourself a favour, and go to one of Halifax's actual good restaurants, and don't waste your money, and enjoy your time in the city.
This is generally a decent place to go for a drink, especially if you want to hear live music. Nachos are small and expensive, but also loaded and yummy. On one occasion, my boyfriend and I ordered a plate of veggie and a plate of meaty nachos at the same time and combined them ourselves to create a stellar combination of flavourful goodness. I recommend performing this sort of mastery yourselves!
Hello fellow foodies, I hope you find this review helpful for whatever plans you may have in mind today. Let me start out by saying, we really had a great time! To set the scene, my husband, myself and 4 children went out to see the Tall Ships for the afternoon. We were all hungry and went to Stayner's for lunch. As you can imagine with Tall ships in town, it was very busy. However, Stayner's staff stayed tried and true through it all keeping great composure. Instead of overflowing their kitchen and creating long waits for food, the owners methodically chose to stagger tables, whereby there will be a 5-10 minute wait per family coming to be seated. That would mean their kitchen would be flowing continuously with little to no delay to the customers. Instead of crowding in customers and backing up the kitchen. Excellent choice! We happily waited our turn. Staff were courteous, knowledgeable and buzzing around efficiently. We sat outside and enjoyed all the 'goings on'. Our server was from Australia. We appreciated her advice and opinions. She gave quite potentially the best answer I've ever received to a very common question I ask at restaurants. 'What is your most popular dish?'. Her response without delay, 'How about I give you 4'. Simple, but well knowledgeable and confident in her product. All dishes (of which I sampled), were delicious. Well done, good portions. The 'Vachos' were very well done and a perfect portion size for those who want an 'appetizer', not a meal before a meal ;) I had the haddock, (There are two if memory serves). This is the one with some type of a pineapple chutney. Fantastic. Rice is a big treat in our home and it was so good I could have just kept eating more! The Almond Blueberry Chicken was also very delicious. The veggies are on the top of my favourites list too. It was great to see ownership/managers working as hard as staff. Greatly appreciated! If I were to point out one thing, it would be this; although it was busy and everyone maintained professionalism and efficiency overall, another two - three tables around us received their food some time before us, but came in well after us. Remember, 4 hungry children with lol, otherwise I may not have even noticed. And on such a busy afternoon, I can understand how something like that can happen. Besides, if that's all that goes wrong on such a busy afternoon, then it's the least of my worries. It's a big deal when a company can run as smoothly as Stayner's did that day!Great work Stayner's and thank you for being such great hosts!Sincerely, Tabetha
Went here for a couple meals Brunch one day and a late night meal on another. Both times food service was exceptional and quick prices were reasonable.
