Nice hotel outside of central Bangor but easy walking distance back. Nice views of the bay on a clear day and right by the pier. Rooms are pleasant, like others have said a little dated but part of the charm. Guests with mobility issues should request a room on the ground floor had the stairs up to the top floors are very steep narrow. Really friendly staff on reception in the restaurant. Didn't have the breakfast but dinner was nice, excellent waitress service from the young woman working that evening and the chef came out to check we we're enjoying it (we told him we'd climbed Snowdon that day and were starving and I'm pretty sure he gave us bigger portions). Overall a very nice stay.
The staff at the Eryl Mor are very friendly and helpful. Sadly the food is average, although breakfast is very good. The room was tired and the lighting dreadful. The bathroom had been modernised and the shower was excellent. The steps up to the annex building are steep and poorly lit making them risky at night
I am on a bit of an adventure with a friend visiting, using public transport, the 8 castles of Edward 1. The journey and experience so far has been glorious with differing standards of both accommodation and eating experiences. Bangor is our last stop and we are staying at the University in Halls of residence while visiting both Beaumaris and Caernarfon castles. This evening we had booked into the Eryl Mor. We had read reviews and seen the pictures and thought as it was only a short walk from our accommodation we would give it a go. The experience was nothing short of woeful. The worst part of the experience was no compliance with the Covid restrictions that are still in place here in Wales. We mentioned on arrival that we had booked but our name was not taken neither were we asked as you are in Wales to complete a track and trace form. We walked into the bar area to enquire where are table was only to be laughed at by three women sitting in the bar because we were wearing masks. They talked amongst themselves saying they did not even know where their masks were. They were residents but they still should have been wearing masks when walking round the hotel which they did not. They had a downstairs room with 2 dogs in that barked the whole time we were eating. The greenhouse type restaurant did have a lovely view of the sea but it was a sad place. You would have thought some work might have been done on it during lockdown but no. The roof had not seen a good wash in a while covered in seagull poo. The meal was OK but the service was poor, the ambience non existent. Another thing to add is that the picture you see of this hotel is not the building the restaurant is attached to nor the building the guests seemed to be staying in but one next door. Not often I write a review on Trip Advisor but this morning after the night before I am feeling really angry mainly due to the Covid non compliance which has been so rigorous during the rest of our trip.
Ordered two Sunday dinners from here today, one was with veggie sausages and other different meats, the wait was half an hour which is ok, but after waiting another 10 minutes after arriving to collect we then got the food home to a stone cold Sunday dinner!!! I'm still in shock how it could be served that cold and especially after waiting 40 minutes for it!! The meat was very very dry, veggie sausages were probably the worst we have tasted, everything was very bland, will not be going here again!!
