Acme Oyster House - Gulf Shores

Visit this place for the oysters, as they truly excel in serving them. Our server was fantastic. We wanted to sit outside, but unfortunately, they weren't offering outdoor seating that day. Besides the oysters, the only gluten-free options available were the jambalaya and red beans and rice.

I can only give this restaurant three stars, and that’s mainly because the oysters were decent. Unfortunately, our server seemed disinterested and frequently rolled her eyes, which made for an uncomfortable experience. The mandatory 18% tip felt unjustified, considering she earned $36 from our table, and it simply wasn’t worth it. When we settled our bill, she promised to bring back our change but only did so after we asked, claiming she’d been instructed to keep it—definitely not acceptable! I’d also like to offer to teach the bartenders at AOH how to make a proper Mint Julep. I’ve never been a fan of Acme Oyster House in New Orleans and was hoping this location would be an improvement. While the oysters were good, everything else detracted from the overall experience.

I was pleasantly surprised by the food at this restaurant. The fish poboy was excellent, but the crab cake was truly exceptional. I wouldn't recommend the gumbo, though. The prices are reasonable, making it a solid choice overall.

The second Acme we have visited. This one is HUGE in comparison to the one in NOLA! Staff was super friendly and helpful in deciding what to order. The oysters, raw and chargrilled (my favorite) were excellent. The alligator bites were solid. The cajun sampler, however, was VERY bland for cajun food. The red beans and rice were sad and the jambalaya was just the roux base. The real star of the show was the poutine fries! They are cheap and incredibly good.

Love the original in New Orleans, but this one isn't as good. Everything was super salty, the jambalaya was dry, and the oysters were wildly uneven (some super small, so small they weren't even a whole bite). The service was great, the atmosphere was fun, but I wouldn't go back to this location.
