Had dumplings for starters which tasted average to say the least. Had a chickpea and sweet potato curry which was disgusting and i would be ashamed to serve. Hubby had a steak which was without taste. Only redeeming thing was the kids meals of fish and chips and the live music. Need to lift your game
The food was great, service fantastic, our waitress was amazing considering we had a large family group. Had the best night, the locals were also extremely friendly which made the night! Would definitely call in again fir drinks or a meal!
I was there last night. My lasting impression will be of the genuinely friendly locals? Who talked to you even in the toilet!I was last here about five years ago? . The hotel has undergone a few changes of owners? The furniture and shape of the hotel is just the same. (Are you someone who likes things to be the same, too? People still drink on the street, they still drink in what has to be one of the most comfortable old-style bars in Victoria. They still drink in the beer garden, with its plentiful supply of tables and chairs.Dogs are welcome. Children are welcome. I was welcome.Let me think. meals are dinner... Wednesday to Saturday. I think Wednesday is curry night. Thursday is Family night where children eat free when parents buy a meal.On a Friday night there was a two page menu, which had the usual pub favourites. My eye was taken by flathead tails and chips and salad . I had sausages, pork and fennel?($22.00) Three large sausages and a large serve of potato mash. Served with a dish of peach chutney, (from the dead tree?). And topped with a sprig of rosemary. Lovely/ I enjoyed my meal enormously. The waitress who served the meals and served the drinks was a real treasure. The wine was a local... Guildford Shiraz Cabernet 2010Brilliant. They have another local wine which they serve which I normally drink... Limestone Track Cabernet Merlot? 2013. Both are $26.00. Take it easy. I was once surprised in Guildford to find a booze check at 11.00 am. I must have escaped!I am so lucky!
Guildford is a small village on the Midland Hwy between Castlemaine and Daylesford - the 'commercial centre' consists of a general store, a post office and a pub. We've been to the pub previously, and I would have called it 'average' - particularly as regards the service. New owners have now come in, and the standards have picked up. The menu included a share plate of nice dumplings, and a Mediterranean share plate for entrees, and standard pub main courses. The verdict was that the food was definitely above average, and the service was family friendly, and excellent. A good variety of local wines, ciders and beers were available. There was live music (Saturday night) and much to my relief the violinist and guitarist played jazz - NOT country - and played it well.
