Stopped here with my parents, as this is their local hangout. Good food, pretty good prices. I had the Swiss Mushroom Burger, which was good, although a little slow in getting to the table. Everyone else enjoyed their food. On the way out we saw some very delicious looking pies, so perhaps we'll try them next time.
Great breakfast with awesome service. I really love their coffee and the server "Bev's is fantastic. Love the home fries are yummy
I will start by saying in 30 yrs this is my first online negative review. My Wife and I visit Guelph to see family coming from Niagara area and have always saw this diner as we drove by. Looking for a family owned restaurant to call "our spot" we decided to stop in today and give it a try. Greeting was nice, cooks in the back seemed to care and have fun. Our waitress was very nice. It wasn't until the end that things went sour. I paid for the meal early as we had a baby who was getting fussy. My wife did not care much for the butternut squash soup and elected not to eat it. No big deal. Waitress asked if she wanted it to go and my wife politely said No Thank You. The waitress smiled and said " you didn't like it?" My wife who never wants to complain about anything in this situation just smiled and said " its ok not everyone likes everything." The waitress did the respectful and customer oriented thing by offering her another soup to go. My wife politely declined as again it was no big deal. After another plea from the lovely waitress my wife accepted feeling bad. The waitress went to the cooking window ( presumably to ask for them to make another kind of soup) and the manager / owner came up to her clearly disgruntled that she would make such a ridiculous offer to a paying customer. He continued to mumble and go on and on about it. I clearly heard him say "well if she didn't like that one why would she like this one, its not our fault she didn't like it blah blah blah." I heard all this because WE WERE SITTING RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE COOKING WINDOW AND COUNTER. He kept looking at the back as if our table was across the diner with a disgruntled look. Even if somehow this was happening to another customer at the same time and this wasn't directed at us it was extremely unprofessional for other customers to hear that about another table. Very unfortunate as I enjoyed my food and our waitress. We do not regret leaving a 20% tip for our waitress prior to this happening but we do regret choosing this place to eat. But I guess the silver lining will be this will always be brought up as a car story when we drive by every time in the future. We won't be back.
This is our go to spot for cheap breakfast in Guelph. $5 before 10am works for us. The breakfast is always good although you can tell the difference if a different cook is on. Bev knows us by now and treats us like regulars which is nice especially in a small town like Guelph. The decor is a bit dated but what can you expect from a decent greasy spoon. If you happen to be waiting in line over at Eggcetra (like we were the day we found Breezy) head downtown and give this place a try. Better than Vienna and cheaper.
