We ordered the tomato burrata salad, a wedge salad a side salad. They did not come out as a salad course. All of the food landed on our table at once. Not only was the table was very crowded, but our steaks salmon got cold as we started with our salads. When we mentioned that we thought the salads would come out first, we got an ‘oops. Sorry.’ dinner felt a bit rushed, even though our seating was for 8pm and probably the last seating that evening. Overall, an okay experience.
I wanted a great place to celebrate my Babe's 60th coming up this week. I'd heard the Blue Herring was fantastic. And it is. David was our server and he was perfect. Relaxed, chill, but was always checking in to see what we needed. David suggested that we, as non-natives, take a stroll up to the bar and discuss which local whiskey we might prefer with the expert, the bartender. I got the Green River Rye. Had great flavor. Jeanne got the Four Roses. The Baked Brie was a great starter. We recommend it. Jeanne got the Tender Loin and I got the RibEye. The crust was perfect, seasoned with fantastic flavor, juicy and melted like butter. Will recommend to anyone at the Horse Park who is undecided where to eat. I don't even like apple pie but helped Jeanne polish it off. It was really good. Warm with the ice cream and a crust cinnamonie and a hint of saltie here and there. Damn good pie.
Arrived during a storm...so it was a bit of an unsettling start...but our expectations were possibly too high, given our marvelous experience here in April 2022. This time, however, things went poorly. My brother ordered a NY Strip med rare, and I ordered a filet med . Someone else ordered the halibut. First, when the food arrived, the waiter was no where to be found. He never inquired as to the state of our steaks... 2nd, my brother's strip was over cooked, more like a medium well, and my filet was barely rare. The halibut was similarly over done. I flagged down a waitress running about to have the filet heated up a bit (it came back imperceptibly more done) .. I could only imagine that the cook was unwilling perhaps to cook a filet above rare? In any event, for the price of these steaks, I would have been way ahead with a mail order Gold grade 6oz Snake River Farms ribeye filet, at $63, than the 8oz filet here at $53. That's even wagyu! except that's not always practical while traveling. All in all, the experience was totally underwhelming, and we were disappointed, given how superb the evening was in 2022. Perhaps it was just a bad day in the kitchen?
What a delightful birthday evening. David was wonderful on my special night. To start, a wonderful selection of bourbons, followed by a delicious baked brie with fig preserve. Our steaks were cooked to perfection; delicious crust with the perfect medium rare inside. And, the apple crumble ala mode was the topping on a perfect meal. Kudos to all!
Great date night spot! Charming location with a great atmosphere, service was phenomenal. Nice selection of drinks, I highly recommend their frog legs appetizer
