La Casita De Martin - Grove

The Mexican food here lacks any real flavor and seems tailored for a geriatric palate—definitely not spicy. The salsa tasted more like tomato juice than anything authentic, and the "hot" salsa we tried was a strange orange hue that had zero heat. I usually enjoy medium spice, but this just didn't deliver. The hot sauce also felt very watered down. Additionally, the restaurant doesn't offer genuine Mexican fare; it's more akin to Oklahoma-style American food. I didn’t see any Spanish-speaking staff in the kitchen, which adds to the authenticity issue. The food seemed like it was either canned or reheated from a bag, typical of a diner aimed at retirees. To top it off, they charged extra for the hot salsa and didn’t include tortillas with our meals. When we inquired about it, they still charged us. Plus, they don’t allow any substitutions on the menu, which is quite unusual. Overall, I would rate the food a 1, service a 2, and atmosphere a 2. Not impressed.

I visited this restaurant based on strong recommendations, but my experience was quite disappointing. My wife could only manage two bites of her entrée before giving up. The only thing we found edible was the steamed frozen vegetables. I will say that the Mexican ranch dressing was decent. My chimichanga had an okay taste, but it caused my lips and tongue to swell and itch, even though I don't have any food allergies. Perhaps it was just a bad day for the restaurant, or maybe it used to be better in the past. Unfortunately, this visit did not meet our expectations at all, and I won’t be returning. If this is the best Mexican restaurant in Grove, I really feel for the place. Food: 1, Service: 3, Atmosphere: 2.
