They have quite an extensive menu and I was excited to see they have one of my favorite dishes, Pozole! We will definitely make this restaurant one of our go to Mexican restaurants whenever we have a hankering!
As I stood and waited at the front to be seated, or even seen...the more time passed, the more I was saying to myself just get back in your car and drive two more minutes to Luna . I should have and unfortunately ended up having lunch at Santa Fe. I went a good hour and a half after lunch hours and there were merely 10 patrons overall (4 then left/finished before I ordered). A lot of empty seats at that point so I was trying to figure out where the host was even. The food....I haven 't eaten here in maybe two years but do not remember it being bad like this. I ordered the Huevos Divociados....I couldn 't even give it a 1 out of 5. It 's a fried tortilla cut out with a hole in the middle where they put the fried egg in. The sauces they put on top were some of the worst things I 've tasted in any Mex/Tex Mex restaurant. The rice was really bad as well bland but yet had a strange sweetness to it, like the actual taste of sugar type of sweet. I was ready to go and waitress was really nowhere to be found for the longest before I had to call on a different waiter for the check. Overall, probably wouldn 't return..would just go to Luna 's over there in the area. Chips and salsa were the best things I ate there...which is telling.
It pains me to write this as our family has enjoyed many many meals here over the years but we had a terrible meal here recently. It started when we walked it right at dinner time on a weekend and the place was nearly empty, very unusual but didn't think too much of it. Got our chips, way overcooked and felt like the oil was rancid. On to the order. Went with a simple combo platter this trip. Brought the wrong things but whatever, I wasn't picky. But interesting that the size of the items was half what they used to be. Cheese in the cheese enchilada not melted, not tasty. Rice again tasted like the oil was rancid. Just a really disappointing meal. One of my adult children is home and wants to try it so we will give them another chance and hope this was just a really bad night for them and not the new normal.
Well, I'm glad we gave this place a second chance even though it took six years. Whether it changed management or we just hit it on a bad day... Yhis visit last week completely transformed our experience. The service was great, the food was great and it's our new favorite Mexican food go to!
Sufficient because it 's close and they have outdoor seating, but it 's gone downhill. Tacos tonight were not satisfying overall. I ordered a steak, Díabla, regular steak and chicken taco. The steak Diabla was delicious, but fell apart on the first bite because the tortilla was just so ridiculously flimsy. I had to pull a big chunk of the regular steak taco out of my mouth because it had so much gristle (embarrassing). The chicken taco had such a strange taste to it that I didn 't finish it. The tacos were more chintzy than I remember from the past. I recall the tortillas being much better and sturdier. There 're so many other great Mexican restaurants in Greensboro, so in the future, I will pass Santa Fe and go somewhere else. And the red salsa picante was watery. I ordered the bean dip, but they should call it cheese dip with a little bit of beans in it...far too much cheese (and not any better than Tostitos queso from the grocery store), so I sent it back.
