North Head Bakery - Grand Manan

What a treat! Love the date squares and the raisin bread, jsute out of the oven! If you like dessert, this place is a must!

C'est la meilleure boulangerie a des lieux à la ronde, sa délicieuse odeur exhale les parfums des pains et brioches frais sortis du four et les croissants, chaussons aux fruits et pains au chocolat sont dignes d'une boulangerie parisienne! Sans oublier le café expresso qui contribue à ma survie sur une île où ce café est rare!Par ailleurs tout le personnel est absolument charmant et chaleureux!

We heard good things about it from several locals we'd talked with and were not disappointed. Their croissants and bread were freshly baked and delicious; and there seems to always be a crowd of customers whenever we pass the place. But be warned: it closes early afternoon, about 3pm or so, so go earlier or miss out.

We have vacationed on Grand Manan for 20 consecutive years, and the North Head Bakery is one of our favorite spots and a true asset to the island. We stay at the Inn at Whale Cove Cottages in a cottage that rents from Sunday to Sunday, and can barely survive until Tuesday when the bakery opens (closed Sunday and Monday).By Tuesday morning, when we hit the bakery, my husband is ready to buy the place out! The croissants are to die for. We love the Saint John Valley Bread and the demi bread and baguettes. The cookies are the best, and my husband loves the macaroons.We are usually back within a couple of days replenishing our stock.We love the community feel of the bakery, where visitors and locals meet. There is a counter where you can enjoy a cup of coffee and read the paper. Not a way to diet, but the North Head Bakery is an top notch bakery, and one of the very special places on Grand Manan.

This bakery would be a 5 star no matter what town it was in!The pastries are rich and sweet, but not overly sweet.We went here all 4 days of our visit to Grand Manan and our only disappointment was when we got there close to closing the first day and the place was almost sold out of everything!When you consider just how far off the grid this island and bakery are it is so amazing to have such quality!
