Spirit Rock Cafe and Inn - Grand Bank

One would not go here for the food because they really don't have anything other than desserts. They have great coffee, better than Starbucks in my opinion. The atmosphere is what makes it a fun place to be. People just show up to play and jam together. You never know what you will hear. Very fun!

I was so excited to see such a beautiful cafe in Grand Marais as there is nothing like it in the area. They could potentially do very well, but I have been disappointed various times. After the first two visits there, I told myself I needed to give it a chance.. simply because I wanted to support the local businesses. I have only ordered drip coffee only because of the high prices there, and it was watered down each time. Third time, I ordered my mother a decaf. The barrista advised he could only make a decaf Americano. Most cafes, if they don't have decaf, as a guest service, they will make an Americano but only charge for a regular coffee. I assumed this would also be the case because it is a CAFE... they should have decaf on the menu. He said he would charge 4.00 for a small decaf Americano. I got quite upset, walked away and said no thanks. He yelled out rudely in front of customers saying they sell presidents choice decaf across the street. That is not how you treat customers! He could have easily turned the experience around to bring me back, but They lost my family and friends' business for good.

I've stopped at this nice little hidden gem a few times. Excellent coffee, friendly staff, best coffee in the beaches area!

Don't be fooled by the cute and quaint exterior/interior of this place. They will scam you while you're standing in the coffee line. This past weekend I went to Spirit Rock Cafe with my friends for some coffee and the prices, as were listed on the board and also confirmed by the man and woman behind the counter, were $4.50 for a vanilla latte. Yet when I go to pay the man has charged me $6.20 and when I asked why it was that much he tells me that is with taxes. $1.70 taxes on a coffee...? That's not right! After consulting with my other friends it seems that they all paid over $6 for a coffee...which was nothing but average at that! The service was terrible, the people were rude, and all-around unfriendly. If I could give this place less than 1 star I would. Never going back here again!

Stayed here for 3 night May long weekend. Live music and great people. The coffee is the best around and the snacks and dessert fantastic.
