The Victualler - Gosport

The food was first class and well presented with a menu that is not overwhelming four of us wined and Dined great !

Unfortunately the place was virtually empty which probably contributed towards the lack of atmosphere. Service in the restaurant was awful, however there was only 1 young lad taking food and drink orders and then bringing it all to the table. We had a long wait!. However there were many bar staff I don't think they got the balance right. Food was OK, not amazing. Starter was a little odd I giant jar of chicken liver pate with a tiny single slice of bread?!?! I'd heard good things about the place, yet found the whole experience drab and disappointing. Wouldn't go back or recommend for food. Maybe just drinks if with a crowd.

The food is really good but overpriced. Unfortunately the whole experience was let down by the fact that there were no where near enough waiting and bar staff and we waited 45 minutes just for a bottle of wine and two beers. The waitress was very apologetic and lovely but she was run off her feet. The restaurant was not even half full so goodness knows how they would cope on a busy Friday night. We had very nicely cooked steaks but overall it seems very overpriced for what you get. Especially when there are other places nearby where you can get a very nice meal for half the price.

I booked this meal with you and received confirmation on my phone and then a reminder that 'could I still attend. ' which I replied 'yes ' too. Copies on my phone. I arrived, only to see a sign on the door saying they wer closed due to a wedding function taking place. I phoned them to be told they were indeed closed for this reason and apologised about the booking mistake. I was very fortunate to be able to get a table at a nearby restaurant at such short notice on a Saturday. I later phoned the manager to complain but she said it was 'Open Tables ' fault which was a pathetic excuse because of the confirmation I had received. The manager did not seem particularly bothered, I feel I should be recompensed in some way for the massive error on their part. My son, (who I hadn 't seen in seven weeks) and his girlfriend had come to visit me from Portsmouth and this was meant to be a special occasion. I 'm very disappointed to say the least.

The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Our waitress was on her first day and she did so well, I hope they keep her on as she was on trial. The food was excellent I would recommend the restaurant to anyone thinking of going
