Choppa Poke - Goleta

Choppa Poke in Goleta offers a unique dining option in an area with limited choices. It is a great spot to grab lunch with generous portions of protein, both cooked and raw options, and a variety of delicious sauces. The service is quick and they usually have all choices available. The restaurant's ambiance is typical for a poke take-out spot, with a few tables available. I personally do not dine in, so I cannot comment much on that aspect. The drink selection is limited to canned or bottled coke, so remember to ask for soy sauce or hot sauce for your takeout order. Don't forget like I usually do!

We ordered 2 bowls from doordash and, although they were delicious, they didn't come with as much food as we had expected based on the pictures. At around $22 per bowl, they were not worth the price. This seems to be a common issue with food delivery, as they tend to skimp on portion sizes since customers are not there in person to complain.

The food is decent, but be prepared for a long wait as there is only one person handling food preparation. It can be frustrating if there are other customers in line ahead of you. I have had better poke elsewhere, but options are limited in the area. My main complaint is the high prices, with a double protein bowl costing $20 with tax as of March 2022. The portion size did not justify the cost. I will not be returning or changing my rating until the prices become more reasonable, ideally around half of the current price.

Fresh fish, scallops, octopus... Quantity of portions more than adequate. Only qualm is the wide choice selection... and the slightly hurried serving approach. A bit like Subway, except that you don't know up front, what are sensible combinations. Servers are happy to make suggestions if asked. If you already know your preferences, go for it, but if not, watch a bit and then have the walk you through it. My personal fav is brown rice, house ponzu, mayo with yellow tail, tuna and octopus, topped with most everything. Be sure to add fried onion on top- decadent, but worth the 40 cal...

Dope poke bowls. What more can I say? The location is very convenient too. It's in the same shopping centre as the Smart Final but it's on the opposite side of the center, so the parking is always good.
