After we check out some other restaurants in göttingen that were either full, or out of exactly what we were trying to order, we thought, let them go to mother's jütte, and it was good. according to my Canadian woman the fillet steaks we had, that there were the best steaks in a German restaurant, we will often come back.
This restaurant is a popular place among the locals in the goettingen, known for its lush game dishes and traditional baking potatoes. it is difficult to reach (20 minutes by car from goettingen, but it is worth the ride and a joy, such. place in a bland city from a culinary view. the room itself is quite stone and the next one I saw in the opposite to a traditional German family restaurant. expect a low deck, interesting old time decoration with beakers and old paintings as well as a no ruffle service. that is open to what I prefer (restaurants in the opposite are often either chains or too much for students and tourists. but the most extraordinary thing is, of course, eating, typically a kind of local meat (wild boar, brain, etc., slowly cooked with its accompanying sauce and then the baked carrots and red cabbage. all are among the best (if not among the best I had in the opposite. expect to pay a bit more than usual, it should drink about 20 25 Euro/person with, but it is good value.
Second time here I learned his old family lover with one of my friends in goettingen. home cooked eating, in the former East Germany, so the history and tradition are really neat. eating is excellent, as is the service. highly recommended.
Mutter Jütte is THE place for (1) real German fried potatoes (Bratkartoffeln) and (2) for a traditional German winter (Christmas) dinner: goose with red cabbage and all the other good stuff that comes with it. I am sure the other food is excellent as well... but this is what we normally come here for. And we have never been disappointed! It's a cozy, authentic, relaxed, down to earth restaurant near Göttingen and certainly worth a visit!
