If you can’t afford the ferry (which would be a recommendation tho , you can also go there by public transport in about an hours (until 31. April it’s free! . You should definitely get the app as it can tell you a lot more are the pieces. You should plan to spend a minimum of 3 hours here, which you can easily extend to 5, as there is so much to see. Many describe Mona as “just weird”. That might be true but it in a very interesting way. It made even me, who knows nothing about arts, think and reflect. Or just wonder. Or just be amazed. It’s a great place, there is lots of stuff for kids to see too, maybe just ask the staff which rooms to focus on/avoid. You have to book the tickets in advanced on their website which is really easy to do. 10/10 would recommend. :
Best museum! Very interesting and engaging exhibits. We went on a public holiday, so it was very busy, however staff were courteous and wait times were minimal. Delicious food was also available in the garden at a reasonable price with good, live entertainment. Car parking was also very close and easy. Would definitely come again!
It’s hard to believe that I’ve only just managed to visit this gallery, after decades of desperately wanting to! This museum is GREAT! Literally the best gallery in the world that I’ve been to, including those in Firenze, Italy. MONA is an entire artistic experience… from the moment you enter, it’s like being transported inside a Salvador Dali painting. The focus on surrealism really did things for me. No boredom where: many of the installations are interactive, or landscapes that you walk through. Every kid I saw in the place loved it as much as the adults. In fact, everyone should ensure that their kids get to spend at least one whole day exploring MONA. My only criticism is that some of the staff were incredibly rude, which was a pity when the art was so enjoyable and their whole job was to interact with the public and be helpful and friendly! But even those bad apples couldn’t ruin the crumble. Visit this place. It will blow your mind!
I don’t usually like museums but I would recommend this place to everyone ! There are heaps of quirky artworks and also playgrounds for kids. Plenty dining options too. Highly recommended this is a must for all visitors to Tasmania. We did the ferry option from Hobart to Mona I recommend this too. Staff were excellent !
I was a little disappointed with one thing I'm a single dad who enjoys art but as I have a young boy I was unable to get the full experience of the wonders that Mona have due to my son wanting to touch everything and wanting to rush through his interest was limited if there was maybe somewhere I could leave my boy who could experience art in a way he may enjoy the experience as well so then I could take my time and fully take in the experience i think it would be more family friendly and children could enjoy art just like there mums and dads. We both enjoyed the ferry ride over but for the young fella it sort of stopped at that with the ferry ride back just as enjoyable Mona is a great place to visit for its various art exhibits the music was great on the ears and and a variety of places for lunch and some tunes.
