My family and I were very disappointed in the Mother's Day buffet at the Hilltop Collection Restaurant. While the selection of food was good, most of the entrees were cold. The prime rib consisted of a piece of meat 1/4 inch thick and 1/2 the size of my palm with fat included. The desserts were average at best. The cakes and cheesecakes resembled the frozen boxed cakes found in most grocery stores. The hostess and waitstaff were apathetic. It felt as if our presence was a bother and we didn't even ask for anything. We would not recommend The Hilltop Collection Restaurant. The value and experience were very poor for the money charged.
My wife and I chose The Hilltop Collection Restaurant for our anniversary dinner, attracted by its romantic, fire-lit setting and the promise of a delightful three-course meal. Unfortunately, the experience fell short of our expectations. The evening began with drinks that were below par; my wife's martini was watered down, and the old-fashioned was improperly made. We hoped the meal would be redeeming, but this hope was short-lived. The only enjoyable part was the clam chowder. The main courses, prime rib and lobster tails, lacked flavor and were overcooked—the broccoli was the lone exception. For dessert, the chocolate cake, though flavorful, was disappointingly dry.The final shock came with the bill. We were prepared to pay $375 but were charged nearly $600. This included an unexpected $85 gratuity, which was added contrary to the menu’s statement that it applied only to parties of six or more. When we inquired about this, the restaurant staff told us that gratuity was automatically added for any party size, which was misleading based on the menu's information.Attempting to resolve this, we encountered further frustration. A woman, apparently in charge that evening, was directing other staff on how to handle our complaint instead of addressing us directly. Her refusal to engage with us personally, opting instead to instruct others from the sidelines, only exacerbated the situation. This lack of direct communication and the confrontational approach in the parking lot left us feeling deeply disrespected and soured our entire evening.Given these circumstances, I cannot recommend The Hilltop Collection Restaurant, especially for any special occasion. The misleading billing practices and the unprofessional handling of our concerns overshadowed any positives, ensuring that we will not return.
