When it first opened, I thought it was just okay, but too similar to the previous restaurant to make a real impact in this part of town. However, they have really stepped up their game in the last month. The food tastes homemade and the service has become friendly and quick. The atmosphere is great, with music from The Stones and Bob Marley. It may still be popular with families, but there are plenty of seating options for individuals or groups. Overall, Rudi's deserves an extra star and it's nice to have them in the area.
How I lament the downfall of Beanscene in its early days it was a bright prospect as a local alternative to the Starbucks/Costa craze that was taking over our cities, offering better food, coffee and music. The Cresswell Lane branch has now morphed into this new name of Rudi's, with not much else changing. It's still popular with the mother baby crowd making it one of the noiser cafes and is always packed at peak times. The coffee seems to be the same to me, which is great news as Beanscene's was always one of my favourites. There's a new sandwich menu and the Rudi's Rueben is a particularly nice NY deli affair. I guess it's still early days for this place, but I was disappointed by the service on both visits it shouldn't take them half an hour to bring me my coffee and sandwich for a week day lunch, and it was not like they forgot it, they were just too slow to keep up with the custom despite having a decent number of staff. The less said about the toilets the better too (a subject that could form its own review website). It left me wondering if there are any decent alternatives to Smug/Tinderbox for a quick lunch and coffee in this area now that so many other places had closed...
Rudi's is a charming new addition to the West End. The restaurant has created its own unique style, moving away from the typical corporate coffee house look. The decor is stylish and upmarket, yet the prices for food are affordable. The atmosphere is clean, modern, and the staff are friendly. The menu offers delicious paninis and baguettes for around £6, with coffees priced at around £2 (or more for additional syrup shots). The restaurant has a relaxed and airy vibe, providing a cozy escape on colder nights. It is child-friendly, but what really stands out is the exceptional service from the staff. During a particularly bad day, a friendly barista brightened my mood with engaging conversation. This experience highlighted how great customer service can leave a lasting impression. I would recommend Rudi's to anyone looking for a great lunch spot, whether it be a group of ladies or friends enjoying a budding bromance. Overall, a truly lovely dining experience.
I used to love this place when it was Bean Scene; it was my favorite location of this Scottish mini chain. However, I believe it has changed ownership and name since then. When I recently visited for a quick trip to Glasgow, it seemed to have yet another name. It now functions more as a cafe than a coffee shop, offering a wide variety of lunches and snacks. I appreciate that they have options for children's lunches, which gives an idea of the current clientele. The cozy armchairs I used to enjoy for writing long hours have been replaced by dining chairs. The only thing that seems to have expanded is their flat white coffees, usually served in small cups but now served in mugs. I thought it was more like a latte than a flat white, but the hot chocolate was a nice treat on a rainy Glasgow morning. Overall, it's still a great place, but it's more suited for casual dining rather than settling in to work with a couple of coffees.
Service is incredibly sloooow (to the point we started thinking they had forgotten) and the tables are overflowing with dirty dishes/cups yuk! Toilets not v clean. Won't be going back.
