This might be the best place I've ever had a samosa. I've tried samosas at most spots in Glasgow, and none compare to this one. It's absolutely fantastic. This place is definitely a must-visit!
This establishment functions more like a shop than a traditional restaurant, but the principle holds true. I often visit for the lamb samosas, which consist of spicy lamb mince mixed with peas, wrapped in pastry, and deep-fried to perfection. Slather them in the accompanying yogurt and hot sauce—delicious! You can dine in their small eating area, but I recommend taking your food home and enjoying it with your hands; that’s the authentic way to savor it. Mmm! As for the sweets, they are undeniably authentic and very, very sweet. I confess, I’m not a fan of Indian sweets, which makes me an outlier in my community. However, if you enjoy them, you’ll find plenty of classics here, like ras malai and gulab jamun. The service can be a bit casual, and occasionally, they might even give you change back that exceeds what you paid, but honestly, I’m not planning to move in, so it’s not a huge deal.
These jalebis are quite sweet, and when it comes to crunchiness, I rate them an 8 on a 1 to 10 scale, where 1 represents something softer than a high school boy on a cross-country team, and 10 is as hard as Walid. Each jalebi has its own character; these ones were thin and a bit sticky, which is actually a good thing. They are priced at 5 pounds per kilo (for my American friends, that translates to about $3.30 per pound). I'm very pleased with my jalebi experience. I took an Uber from my upscale apartment located north of the river to this shop further south. I also highly recommend the gulab jamun—it's simply the best in the world! Another gold medal winner! So, everyone wins here! The customer service is very sweet, and they know how much I love jalebis.
I usually visit this restaurant once a month. I've noticed that the quality of the food, particularly the channa puri on Sundays and the jalebi every day, has declined. The sweetness seems to have decreased as well. However, it's still the best option in Glasgow compared to other sweet shops. I hope they can improve their quality.
