Kelp - Glasgow

We had a lovely beginning to our weekend in Glasgow for Celtic Connections. The food was delicious, and both the service and atmosphere were fantastic.

A dish described as 'figs in a blue cheese sauce with filo pastry ' came with a lot of 'shards ' of pastry, said sauce and half a fig!

We hadn't been here before. We picked it due to proximity to the Theatre Royal. It wasn't busy for a Saturday lunchtime but the calmness suited us. The staff were friendly and the service was top notch. We were offered one menu: £18 for two small plates and a side each. We struggled a bit to find six dishes between us that sounded appetising. You will like this place if you like tidbits of cured fish. Our favourites were the scallops and the roast potatoes. Not successful to our taste were the leeks. We love leeks, but these were large, undercooked rather tasteless chunks that we didn't finish.

Had a great time at the restaurant with excellent and friendly service from all the staff. Quality of food is great with some interesting and unexpected fusions. It was very good value for money with costs for drinks, coffees and puddings being reasonable.

Don’t go here for a pre theatre dinner . We waited 50 minutes for a first course and had to cut the rest of the meal short . There was obviously a problem on the night but no communication to explain . It is not a good idea to give some customers a free glass of wine or a reduction on their bill as an apology . It should be for everyone or no one . Won’t be returning anytime soon
