We were making the long drive home from an Italian vacation back to Zurich. I was the driver and I told my wife that I really did not want to just eat our Sunday Lunch at some mediocre service station place along the highway... so she found this place for us and I could not have been happier. I have provided this rare EXCELLENT RATING as my wife's choice FAR EXCEEDED my expectations of what would be open and available on a Sunday afternoon by the Swiss Italian border. It was the best meal we ate in Italy. The kids were so happy with the food (my daughter loved her mother's pasta dish so much that she wanted another portion for dessert... This place is off the beaten track... but if we are doing another drive to Italy or spending time in Ticino, we will definitely return. Everything worked well for us and the bill for 5 with two glasses of wine and dessert was reasonable. It really is a secret location, but definitely worth the drive off of the highway. ENJOY!
This restaurant was recommended by Slow Food Como, so we looked forward to high quality artisan products. We made a reservation and arrived on time, dressed nicely. The service was disinterested in our presence. The food was even more disinterested. The cheese and charcuterie plate offered commercial fare, the salami sliced so thick it was hard to bite.The bresaola was far inferior to what we had at two much less expensive, truly artisanal, restaurants on the subsequent evenings. We ordered the traditional local dish of polenta, which was prepared without butter, cream, cheese and was hard like cold oatmeal. Maybe this is the traditional way. It did have a good flavour, but you would have to appreciate that kind of texture. The accompaniments (beef stew, porcini mushrooms) were so carelessly made that we really couldn't eat it, although we were hungry. We had to inquire the price of the wine, which is awkward, and made me feel that the price was set spontaneously.
